Regarding the measure: In India, Karshapana is a measure of one-fourth. Based on this, many different views have arisen in Tibet. Lo chen Choskyong Zangpo considered its measure to be ten gold Seba. The Omniscient Losang Gyatso considered that sometimes it could even amount to one Kha or half a Kha. According to the first statement, the value is equivalent to five silver zho; according to the common saying, the value is equivalent to a little more than three silver zho. However, if one examines the views of many Vinaya texts, stealing or robbing property worth about three silver zho, without mistakenly thinking it is one's own, and thus giving rise to the thought of possession, one will commit a root downfall. This needs to be something owned by others, and it needs to be intentionally and without error stolen for one's own benefit. If it is for the benefit of others, or taken without the intention to steal, etc., if these conditions are not met, one will not commit a root downfall. If one steals something shared by many people, it is necessary to meet the value corresponding to each person. If one steals public property, it is sufficient to meet the common value. If one steals offerings to the Three Jewels that are not owned by others, although one will commit the offense of stealing stupa property, one will not commit a root downfall. The situation is similar for the property of non-humans, etc., if it is owned by others. If a monastic robs property by punishing others, if the value is sufficient, he will also commit a root downfall. Some people rely on measuring tools, etc., and take without giving. How this is judged, if explained according to the scriptures, can be clearly stated, but due to the times, it seems difficult to say. Some people, because they have not engaged in impure conduct, consider themselves to be monastics, but this is only a shadow of Buddhism. The third root downfall is killing: Whether one directly kills a person, or kills a life in the mother's womb, through various means, whether one kills oneself or instigates others to kill, one will commit a root downfall. This needs to be intentional and without error. If one kills unintentionally, one will not commit a root downfall. However, if one has the intention to kill, even if one mistakenly kills something else that does not look like the intended victim, one will commit a root downfall. Furthermore, killing an animal results in a downfall, and killing a non-human results in a grave offense. Some people hide behind the scenes and instigate others to kill livestock, etc., this is merely wanting to deceive the results of karma.

Also. The Vinaya Pitaka says: For the sake of war and other common purposes, everyone acts as one person. It means that when going to war, everyone is of one mind and one heart. If one person kills someone, it is as if everyone has killed someone. But if there is no intention to kill, it will not be so. The fourth is the defeat of false speech: Clearly there are no supernormal powers, signs of realization, etc., but one says there are; clearly one has not seen gods, nagas, etc., but one says one has seen them. Some people arbitrarily make prophecies, but if they are not embraced by a special bodhicitta, they also belong to this defeat. In addition, telling small lies for the sake of doing business, etc., will constitute a downfall for monks, etc. Speaking expedient lies solely for the benefit of others will not constitute a fault in many cases, just like the definitive sutras. In these, there are many difficult things to do in terms of motivation, action, and ultimate result. Furthermore, clearly not being a reincarnation of the same sect who can recall past lives, one says one is; clearly not having taken the full ordination, one says one has; clearly not having received empowerment and transmission, one says one has, and so on. These are all skillful means of oneself going astray and accumulating causes. The remaining ones, etc., will be explained from the perspective of names. The second is the thirteen remaining offenses: the remaining offense of seminal emission, touching, obscene language, serving and praising, matchmaking, houses, large houses, rootless, small amount, alienation, following others, destroying families, and the remaining offense of making the Sangha displeased. The third is the thirty offenses of expiation with forfeiture: holding a bowl for expiation, leaving a bowl, exchanging a bowl, begging for clothes, begging, begging lawfully, measuring begging, measuring begging separately, entrusting, these are ten. Silk cotton cushion, black wool cushion, two kinds mixed, six years, one span, carrying wool on the road, spinning wool, touching jewels, having signs, doing business, these are ten. Holding a bowl for more than ten days, extra bowls, causing weaving, causing spinning, seizing property, arising from force, leaving the monastery, large cloth, changing offerings, and the expiation of accumulation, these are ten. Among the ninety individual offenses of downfall, there is the offense of false speech, speaking of others' faults, sowing discord, establishing accusations, and teaching the Dharma to women.
