It is clear that the 'self' imputed in dependence is shown to be the object of the view of the perishable. The five aggregates are not the 'self,' and another 'self' other than the aggregates is also refuted. Therefore, it is crucial to understand how to grasp the 'self' that is merely imputed in dependence and the absence of self. Regarding this, in an explanation, it says: 'By perfectly coordinating the various sutras, and by excluding a 'self' that is different in essence from the aggregates, and by excluding the aggregates as the object of the clinging to a self, the way of establishing the absence of self of a person that is merely established by the power of the terminology of imputation in dependence on the aggregates is unique.' From then on, 'Strive to fully understand these extraordinary views of the wise, which clearly reveal the extremely subtle intentions of the Buddha, the Bhagavan.' Therefore, one must strive to understand. The second point is: If, even accepting that this sutra says 'merely look at these five aggregates,' this sutra shows the aggregates as the 'self,' but it does not show each individual aggregate as the 'self.' Because when this sutra says 'the aggregates are the 'self',' it refers to the collection of aggregates as the 'self,' not showing each aggregate's nature as the 'self.' For example, when saying 'the trees are the forest,' it shows that their collection is the forest, not saying that each tree is the forest. This is an example that is established for others. If someone thinks that merely the collection of aggregates is the 'self,' then the collection of aggregates is not that 'self.' Because it is said that the 'self' is a protector and a witness, but according to you, the collection of the eighth consciousness is not a protector, nor is it a tamer or a master, because that collection is not substantially existent. The 'self' is said to be a protector, etc., because the sutra says: 'Oneself is one's own protector, oneself is also one's own enemy. For the good and bad done, oneself is one's own witness.' The third point is: Furthermore, it is not reasonable to consider the collection of aggregates as the 'self.' Because if one thinks that way, then the collection of parts of a chariot gathered in one place would become the chariot itself. This is because the chariot and the 'self' are the same in whether or not they are established on their own collection of parts. This is because, the sutra says: 'Just as the parts

Just as assemblies, relying on which it is called a chariot. As it is said and so on. Secondly, the aggregates are merely assembled, that is, merely a combination is not self, because as mentioned earlier in the sutra it is said that relying on the combination of aggregates it is established as self. If it is said that pots and so on are not definite. Answer: There is no fault, because pots and so on are not merely established as their own component combinations, but are similarly established as merely imputed relying on the combination. Thirdly, if it is said that the arrangement of the shape of the aggregates of one's own continuum is merely self. Answer: This is not reasonable, because shape is something that has form. Pervasive, because according to your tenet, those things that have form themselves become the so-called self, while mind and so on, that is, the combination of mental factors, are not established as the nature of self, because why? Because those minds and mental factors do not have shape. Fourthly, furthermore, the combination of aggregates is not self, because the taker, self, and the combination of aggregates to be taken are not two things of one rational entity, if so, then the agent and the action will become one, the taker self and the aggregates to be taken, those two are reasonable to become one. The sign is accepted. It cannot be accepted, because the potter and the pot will also become one. As it is said in the Root Wisdom: If wood is fire, the agent and the action will become one. And together with bottles, felt, etc., all have been explained in detail. If you think in your mind: Even if there is no agent, the taker of aggregates, there is only the combination of aggregates to be done. This is also unreasonable, because why? Because if there is no agent, then there must also be no action. As it is said in the Root Wisdom: Similarly, the taker should be known, in order to eliminate action and agent. With agents and actions, the remaining things should be known. Because it is said. The meaning of understanding the remaining things is that action and agent are established in mutual dependence, so they do not exist by nature, similarly, what is produced and what produces, characteristic and what is expressed, goer and what is gone, what is seen and what sees, branch and
