Because it says, "Such is the view." Some respected people consider the one mind to be the self, because the sutra says, "Oneself is one's own protector, who else could be a protector? By well taming oneself, the wise will attain high status." Most orthodox teachers, such as Lekdenjé (Legs ldan 'byed), consider the mind's consciousness to be the self, because in the Blaze of Reasoning (rTog ge 'bar ba) it says, "Thus, we also nominally apply the term 'self' directly to consciousness, because consciousness is the reason for taking rebirth, therefore it is the self." The Mind-Only school, which does not accept the alaya consciousness, considers that to be the self. The second part has two points: the meaning of the words and the general meaning. The first point is: If, according to the view that one's own aggregates are the self, then one person at one time would also have many selves, because the aggregates are many, because there are five aggregates. If accepted, then one person would have many different continuums. Furthermore, the self would become substantially existent, because each aggregate is substantially existent, and the self and the aggregates are one in nature. If accepted, then the sutra's statement, "Just as relying on the collection of parts, it is called a chariot, similarly relying on the aggregates, it is called a conventional sentient being," would be unreasonable. Furthermore, the view of the perishable that views the aggregates, your knowledge would not become inverted, because you, like the knowledge that grasps blue and yellow, are a mind that engages with a substantially established object. It cannot be accepted, because it is a wrong view. According to your view, at the time of nirvana without remainder, the continuum of the self will necessarily be cut off, because at that time the five aggregates of appropriation will be cut off. This is pervasive, because the self and the aggregates are one. The thesis is accepted. In the moment before entering nirvana without remainder, just as the aggregates arise and cease from moment to moment, the self will also arise and cease, because the aggregates do so. Because the nature of these two is one, if accepted, just as one does not grasp "my body existed before," one will also not grasp "at that time I was born here."

Therefore, there is a fault. Because the "self" at that time is destroyed like the body. Therefore, there is this fault because your proposition is reasonable. The pervasion is: As stated in the Root Wisdom, "The aggregates are not the self, because they are subject to arising and ceasing. How can there be a self in the aggregates, when the aggregates are subject to arising and ceasing?" And it says, "If the aggregates were the self, the self would be subject to arising and ceasing." Therefore, at that time, there is no agent, and therefore no one to experience the result. Because after the action is done, the agent is cut off and no longer exists, so the reason is accepted. If it is said that the result of the previous moment's action is experienced by the later moment, which is established by its own nature, then the result of the karma accumulated by another person will be enjoyed by another stream of consciousness. Because the result of the karma accumulated by another, which is established by its own nature, is enjoyed by another. If you accept this, then there will be the situation where uncreated karma is encountered and created karma is wasted. Because you accept it. The pervasion is: As stated in the Root Wisdom, "If this is different from that, it should arise independently of that. Thus, there should be nothing that can produce something. If there is annihilation, there is no result, and all actions will be lost." etc. The second point is: In general, it is not a fault to have multiple "selves" in the continuum of one person, because the "self" of the previous and later lives, and the "self" of morning and afternoon, etc., are established conventionally. Then, if someone wonders how the above-mentioned harm of becoming multiple "selves" is established, it is because those who think that each of the five aggregates of their own continuum is the "self" all think that these are established by their own nature. If the five aggregates are the "self" established by their own nature, then there must be multiple independent "selves" in the continuum of one person. If this is the case, then at the time of taking birth, either multiple "selves" take birth simultaneously, or just as the five aggregates do not take birth, the "self" also does not take birth, etc., faults will occur. Because it is considering these faults. In our own system, although there are multiple "selves" such as morning and afternoon in the continuum of one person, the aforementioned harms do not apply, and there is a reason for this. Because others think that the "self" is substantially existent, that kind of fault will occur. But here, the "self" is admitted to be imputed, as will be explained later, so it will not be a fault. Therefore, there is this fault, because it is real.
