Because the scripture "I have fully proclaimed" clearly elucidates this. Therefore, in this system, there are four sutras that need to be interpreted as provisional: the sutra that separately distinguishes the existence or non-existence of truth in the three natures and explains them; the sutra that explains the non-existence of external objects; the sutra that explains the existence of the Alaya consciousness; and the Sandhinirmocana Sutra, which explains the ultimate establishment as the three vehicles. Because these sutras exist. The meaning of "scripture" in the text is not limited to the sutra quoted earlier. Because there are four aspects, including the sutra explaining the Alaya consciousness, which need to be interpreted as provisional. The detailed classification of these should be understood from the commentary. Second, knowable phenomena, subject: It is necessary for the Buddha to initially refute the knowable phenomena of external objects, because if one can ascertain the selflessness of external objects, then eliminating the true establishment of consciousness is easily attained, as the Buddhas have stated. Because if one can ascertain the selflessness of external objects, then the selflessness that refutes the true establishment of consciousness will become a method for establishing it. Second, as mentioned above, after understanding the history of the definitive and provisional scriptures, the classification of definitive and provisional sutras is reasonable. Therefore, one should understand that any sutra that primarily explains conventional truth rather than ultimate truth is provisional and should be distinguished as such. One should understand that the sutra that primarily explains emptiness is a definitive sutra, that is, it must be understood. As it says in the Samadhiraja Sutra: "The emptiness taught by the Sugata, know the distinctions of the definitive sutras. Whatever sutra explains sentient beings, individuals, and persons, know that all of those are provisional, the distinctions of the provisional sutras." Second, the naked ascetics say, if one believes that things arise from either self or other individually, it is unreasonable because it is contradicted by previous reasoning. However, arising from both exists. For example, the person Devadatta arises from the life force that is his own nature, therefore it arises from self; he arises from parents and so on, therefore it arises from other. Also, a clay pot arises from the nature of clay, therefore it is from self; it arises from the potter, therefore it is from other. Therefore, it is reasonable to believe that it arises from both. Knowable phenomena, subject: Both self and other
