Being free from the clinging to conditioned phenomena, if the other-powered entity, which is empty of the two distinct substances of grasper and grasped, exists by its own nature, then, Mind-Only proponent, with what consciousness will you know the existence of this other-powered? This should be asked. It is not permissible to say that it exists even if it is not apprehended by consciousness, because if it is not established by valid cognition, it will become non-existent. If you say that the consciousness without external objects is truly established, and it is established by self-experiencing self-awareness, then that is not reasonable, because that consciousness itself does not establish the experience of that consciousness itself. In this case, there are two: stating the prior position of those who assert self-awareness, and refuting it. First, those who assert self-awareness say that there is a way in which self-awareness arises. For example, considering the case of direct perception of blue, when the direct perception of the sense faculty that apprehends blue arises, there is one consciousness that manifests the appearance of blue, and another independent apprehending aspect that does not manifest the appearance of blue but only turns inward, being free from all dualistic appearances. The former is the apprehended aspect, and the latter is the apprehending aspect. This is because, for example, when a clean crystal ball is placed on a blue cloth, there arises one clear part that has been changed in color by the blue, and another clear part from the crystal ball itself. Similarly, when a lamp is lit, it illuminates other objects and also has the nature of illuminating itself. This is how self-awareness is understood, as stated in the Trikaya 'bar ba: "Consciousness appears as two: self-appearance and object-appearance. The consciousness that appears as an object transforms into the image of an external object and becomes the object of the consciousness that appears as self." Therefore, according to their system, the apprehending aspect of the experiencer of blue, although it experiences both the apprehension of blue and itself, is considered to be an independent apprehending aspect that is free from dualistic appearance, without the aspect of a knower in itself and without the aspect of a knowable in the apprehension of blue. As stated in the Pramāṇavārttika: "Always inwardly manifest to me, there is no aspect of knowable or knower." Therefore, there is a way to establish it. Based on the sign of memory, it is established that there has been experience of apprehending blue. For the experiencer, there are two types of experience: other-experience and self-experience.

If there is another experiencer, it would lead to an infinite regress of experiencers, and it would also lead to the subsequent apprehension not applying to blue, so it is unreasonable. If there is self-experience, then self-experience existing in a way that is distant from oneself is unreasonable. In order to establish self-awareness as described earlier, apprehension does not have another experiencer, because if it did, then the other meaning of the experiencer would also need to be experienced by another experiencer. If that were the case, the experiencer would become infinite, and if it were infinite, then the apprehension would also become infinite. If that were the case, the fundamental apprehension would be unreasonable, so it would also become without an experiencer. Apprehension has an experiencer, because there is the arising of memory with the object of "I saw blue." Just as if one has not experienced blue, the knowledge of recalling the object of blue does not arise, if apprehension does not have an experiencer, then the arising of memory-consciousness recalling the object of apprehension is unreasonable, therefore it is unique to it. There is no fault of an infinite regress of experiencers, because the subsequent apprehension experiences the previous apprehension. If one says: The subsequent apprehension cannot apply to the object of blue, because it experiences the previous apprehension. This is pervasive, because having abandoned the function of the inner apprehension as the object to be grasped, there is no need to apply to the external blue. If one says: There is no fault, because two different experiencers arise simultaneously for the previous and subsequent apprehensions. If one says: Then, it would follow that two consciousnesses of the same type but different entities arise simultaneously in the continuum of one sentient being. Because the commitment is reasonable. If one accepts, that is unreasonable. The sutra says: "The consciousnesses of sentient beings are only individual continuums." To refute the second view, it is divided into two parts: refuting the proof and refuting the proven. The first part is: You establish that apprehension has an experiencer based on the sign of memory, is that positing memory that establishes its own characteristic as the sign, or is it merely positing memory as the sign? If it is the first case, that is unreasonable. Because in my system, such memory and self-awareness are non-dual and the same, therefore the proof and the proven are the same. If it is the second case, then the pervasion is uncertain, because from the sign of fire alone
