In this system, there are two proofs, scriptural and logical, to establish destruction as a real entity. The scriptural proof is from the Sutra of the Ten Grounds, which states, "Due to the condition of birth, there is aging and death." This itself demonstrates that destruction is a real entity. How does it demonstrate? It does. The death of a sentient being is its destruction. And it is said that this is produced by the condition of birth. The logical proof is: The destruction of a sprout must be a real entity because its destruction depends on causes and conditions. Why? Because a sprout does not perish without depending on causes and conditions. The pervasion is: If the destruction of a sprout does not depend on conditions, then its destruction will also not depend on conditions. The second is: What is the example of karma that is not inherently existent producing a result? It is said: Although past karma has ceased and is not inherently existent, even from the cessation of such non-existent karma, there is its own result. For example, in a dream while sleeping, one sees the form of a woman as an object of focus. Even when awake, a fool develops attachment by focusing on a woman who has ceased and does not exist, and that is the same. The third has two parts: refuting the argument that maturation arises without interruption, and refuting the argument that contradicts the scriptures establishing the existence of the base of all (alaya). The first is: If a karma that is inherently non-existent produces a result after it has ceased, then a karma that has already produced its maturation should produce maturation again. Answer: Knowable phenomena, although both karmas that have produced maturation and those that have not are the same in being inherently non-existent, one must understand that a maturation that has already ripened does not ripen again, that is, it does not produce again. For example, although an object is not real, it is similar. Like someone with cataracts in their eyes seeing the appearance of hairs in a place where there is no ground, but not seeing the appearance of other things like donkey horns. Likewise, the difference is that a karma that has not produced its maturation produces it, while one that has already produced it does not. Moreover, the results of white and black karmas are also determined separately. How so? An unpleasant maturation, that is, an undesirable one, arises from black karma. A pleasant maturation, that is, a desirable one, is seen to arise from virtuous karma. The results of all karmas are determined separately.

Since the explanation of the example of the earth has been completed, therefore, the person with the wisdom to understand that good and non-good actions do not exist in their own nature, their dharma is that they will be liberated from samsara, because the method of liberation from samsara is to understand well the suchness of cause and effect. The Victorious One also negates thinking about the circumstances of actions and fruits with the intellect that distinguishes the ultimate meaning, because, in conventional terms, the ripening of the fruits of actions is inconceivable, therefore, in order to prevent ordinary people with little wisdom from slandering the results of actions, thinking that the certainty of the results of actions will be in vain. The second part is divided into two points: the text and the example of what is said in the explanation. The first point is: knowable dharma, even in name, the alaya consciousness does not exist, but in other sutras it is said that it is not contradictory to say that it is the basis of the results of actions, because there is an alaya consciousness that is different in nature from the six aggregates of consciousness, and there is an independent person, and it is shown that the aggregates of form, etc., are a pleasant and true existence, all of which are said for those who cannot understand the extremely profound meaning mentioned above. So, what is the alaya consciousness like? The detailed content needs to be understood from the Ornament for Clear Realization, etc., and here is a summary: those who acknowledge the alaya consciousness have their way of thinking about it, that is, as the basis for generating their own fruits—all pure dharmas, like the seeds of those. Because they consider it to be a consciousness that is different in nature from each of the six aggregates of consciousness, as it is said in the sutra: "The realm of beginningless time is the basis of all dharmas, because of its existence, all beings, and nirvana can also be attained." Therefore, saying that the alaya consciousness exists here is interpreted as provisional meaning, because that sutra is spoken from the perspective of the trainees who are being tamed, considering emptiness, so it is interpreted from the perspective of provisional meaning. The second point is: not only does the alaya consciousness not exist, but also things do not exist in their own nature, however, existing in their own nature, showing in this way with provisional meaning, its dharma is that it is necessary, because it is the method of guiding the trainees, for example, even if one is separated from the view of the perishable collection, but still in order to comprehend the suchness, the Buddha
