Some Sautrāntikas and Mind-only followers of the scriptures say: There is no such fault, because karmic imprints are placed on the ālaya-vijñāna, and then they are nourished to produce the vipāka fruit. They say this. The Sautrāntikas and the Mind-only followers of reason, as well as the Yogācāra-Svātantrika-Madhyamikas and the Bhāviveka school, say: There is no such fault, because when karma ceases, karmic imprints are placed on the mind consciousness, and then they are nourished by conditions to produce the vipāka fruit. They say this. The answer of our own system is: There is a long time interval between virtuous and non-virtuous karma and the vipāka fruit, and even if these two karmas do not cease before producing the desirable and undesirable vipāka fruit, there is no fault of karma not producing those two fruits, because when karma ceases, it does not cease by nature, and in conventional terms, karmic imprints are placed on the mere "I" that is imputed in dependence on the aggregates, and then they are nourished by conditions to produce the desirable and undesirable vipāka fruit. This way of answering is also the view of the noble ones, as it is said in the Root Wisdom: Because karma does not arise, therefore its nature does not exist, because it is unborn, therefore it will not be wasted. Because karma is not born by nature, it does not cease by nature. In this system that holds that karma does not cease by nature, destruction can be real, because in the systems below the Svātantrika, when a sprout is destroyed, all the real entities of the parts of the sprout disappear, so the destruction of the sprout is not established as real, and it is considered to be permanent and non-affirming negation. In the system that posits the destruction of a sprout without examination or analysis, when a sprout is destroyed, even if all the real entities of the parts of the sprout disappear, the destruction of the sprout is acknowledged as a non-affirming negation and a basis of reality that has become its continuum. Therefore, here it is held that the past, future, and present of a sprout are real, and in general, although there is a cause for a sprout to arise, like a field in winter, for a while, due to the lack of complete conditions, that part of the sprout that does not arise is a non-affirming negation, sprout

The future of a sprout, and the present of that thing which is born as the nature of a sprout, and that non-affirming negation of the part that perishes in the second moment when it is established itself, is established as its past. Because those are considered to be things. Although the destruction of a sprout is born but not ceased, it is not the present, because the first moment of the destruction of a sprout is the destruction of the sprout, and from the second moment of destruction onwards, it is the destruction of those, so it is not the present. The destruction of a sprout and so on are also things, because they arise from their own previous similar kind. Therefore, the three times are contradictory, that is, all the past similar kinds that have arisen are established as the past part of another thing; all the future similar kinds that have arisen are established as the part of another thing that has not been born there; the present does not possess such characteristics. Some say: what has passed is the definition of the past, what has not been born is the definition of the future, what has been born but not ceased is the definition of the present. That is not reasonable, because that future is not unborn. Because that is born. Because that is born from its own cause. Furthermore, the past of a sprout, should be the present, because it is that definition. Because whatever is born, has not ceased. It cannot be considered so, because it is the past. Because it is that subject. Because that exists. Furthermore, those are not reasonable, because although a rabbit's horn is unborn, it is not the future, and the future of a sprout, although it is born and ceased, it is not the present. Some say: if it is the future at the time of the sprout, then it pervades being the future of the sprout. The past of a sprout, should be that, because it is that reason. Because it has not arrived at the time of the sprout. It does not pervade in one way. If it is not established, then it should be that, because it has not been born at that time. Because it is being born at that time. Because it must be born at that time. Because it is that result. It cannot be considered so. Some say: if it is the past at the time of the sprout, then it pervades being the past of the sprout. The future of a sprout, should be that, because it is that reason.
