To contemplate. Speech. The edge of karma. Livelihood. Effort. Mindfulness. Samadhi, which are the eight branches of the Noble Path, and if separated individually, they become thirty-seven. The third is, the fourth ground, the Dharma, possesses special abandonment, that is, the object to be abandoned in its own share, self, that is, the view of self, and related to it, that is, the afflictions that are led by it and hold onto self-sufficient substantial existence, are completely exhausted, because it possesses it. Madhyamaka and others are easy. Fifth, there are two explanations for the fifth ground, which is difficult to tame: explaining the definition of the ground, and showing that meditation is superior and skilled in truth. The first has two parts: the meaning of the words and the general meaning. The first is: the fifth ground, the Dharma, is called the ground of difficult taming, because the Bodhicitta great being residing in you cannot be defeated by all the demons of the sons of gods. The second is: how are merits obtained in this ground? Because the perfection of meditation is superior, and twelve thousand million merits are obtained. There is a way to hold the birth of Vipaka, because after taking birth as the lord of Tushita, he does the benefit of sentient beings. There is a reason why this ground is called difficult to tame, because not only is it difficult to defeat all the demons, but also the Bodhicitta finds it very difficult to accept and reject the faults and merits of its own share, so it is called that way. If so, what is the nature of meditation, etc.? Yes, the awareness of the mind dwelling single-pointedly on any virtuous object is the nature of meditation. If it is divided, from the aspect of nature, there are two meditations: transcendental and non-transcendental. From the aspect of direction, there are single-pointedness and insight, and the combination of the two is three. From the aspect of function, there are three meditations: living happily in this life, accomplishing merits, and doing the benefit of sentient beings. Meditation does not pervade its perfection, because outsiders and Hearers also have meditation. The second has two parts: the meaning of the words and the general meaning. The fifth ground, the Dharma, possesses the wisdom of being skilled in the subtle and coarse of the four truths, because the perfection of meditation is superior, and the truth of cessation, etc., is well examined with good wisdom, and the four truths

Because one has attained great skill in understanding the nature of things in a subtle way. Secondly, if one attains the wisdom that is skilled in the gross and subtle aspects of the four truths in this realm, then what are the gross and subtle aspects of the four truths like? They do exist: the two gross and subtle aspects of the truth of suffering, which are encompassed by the side of complete affliction; the two gross and subtle aspects of the truth of origin, which are encompassed by that; the two gross and subtle aspects of the truth of cessation, which are encompassed by the side of complete purification; and the two gross and subtle aspects of the truth of the path, which are encompassed by that. Thus, they exist. There is a difference between the gross and subtle aspects of the truth of suffering: those sufferings that ordinary beings can directly ascertain as the truth of suffering through their own power are the gross truth of suffering; and those truths of suffering that cannot be ascertained in that way are subtle. There is a difference between the gross and subtle aspects of the truth of origin: the afflictions that arise from the clinging to the truth of inherent existence, which clings to a person as permanent, singular, and independent, and which clings to a self-sufficient substance, and the karmic origins that arise from that, are the gross origins. The afflictions that are the clinging to truth that leads to those origins, and the karmic origins that arise from that, are the subtle origins. There are also subtle and gross aspects of the truth of cessation: the cessation that has become the nature of reality, attained through the power of the path that directly realizes subtle selflessness, is the subtle truth of cessation; and the gross selflessness that is attained through the path that directly realizes gross selflessness, which is known as the truth of cessation, is the gross truth of cessation. There are also subtle and gross aspects of the truth of the path: the wisdom that directly realizes subtle selflessness is the subtle truth of the path; and the wisdom that directly realizes gross selflessness is the gross truth of the path. However, it is clear that the gross truth of cessation does not encompass all cessation, and the gross truth of the path does not encompass all paths. Otherwise, if one were to assert that cessation encompasses subtle cessation, then it would be unreasonable to explain the gross and subtle aspects of the four truths. That is also the case because here it is explained that cessation encompasses ultimate truth, and if there were a gross selflessness that had become cessation, then it would not encompass it. Even so, the gross truth of the path is not the path.
