If it is a person with some ability, why must it be a Bodhisattva who directly realizes emptiness? Because in the nature of the wisdom of the path of learning that directly realizes emptiness, worldly appearances do not arise. Some say, "The fire that burns all the firewood of knowable objects." This indicates that in the state of equipoise of the third ground, one can abandon the obscurations to knowledge. This is also unreasonable, because until one attains the eighth ground, not only can one not abandon subtle obscurations to knowledge, but also if one considers the habitual tendencies of dualistic confusion as obscurations to knowledge, no matter which of the three categories of small, medium, or large one assigns it to, one cannot obtain its antidote, the uninterrupted path, in the state of equipoise of the third ground. Furthermore, this is also unreasonable, because this treatise later says that in a certain state of equipoise, in order to be able to destroy the obscurations to knowledge, as a precursor, such appearances will arise on the third ground. It is not saying that in the equipoise of the third ground, in order to be able to destroy it, as a precursor, such appearances will arise. Second, there are four points: particularly explaining patience on this ground, how to cultivate other patience, the classification of the perfection of patience, and other qualities that arise on this ground. The first point is: knowable phenomena, on this third ground, one particularly obtains the practice of the perfection of patience, because although the Bodhisattva of the third ground is not an object of anger, if some malicious people, from that Bodhisattva's body, not only cut flesh, but also cut together with bones, not for a short time, but for a long time, extremely violently, not cutting it off completely, but cutting it inch by inch, then that Bodhisattva's patience particularly arises in relation to that act of cutting. In this way, not only does patience increase through compassion, but it also increases through wisdom, because why? For a Bodhisattva who directly sees selflessness, what body is there to cut? Who is the cutter? At what time? In what way does he cut all phenomena? That Bodhisattva's wisdom sees them like reflections, therefore that Bodhisattva will also be patient. Second, there are two points: one should not be angry, and one should cultivate patience. First, there are four points: one should not be angry because the faults are very great, later suffering.

The contradiction between not wanting suffering and retaliating. Anger destroys the roots of virtue, which is unreasonable. Thinking about the faults of impatience, it is shown that anger must be suppressed. First: The object of knowledge, because the oppressor has caused harm, in response to that harm, blaming the harmer, that is, anger, is certainly meaningless in this life, and moreover, it will also be contrary to the benefit of the next world. If one blames the harmer and retaliates, since one harbors resentment towards the harmer, the harm to oneself has already been done, can it be reversed? Since it cannot be reversed, therefore (one should not be angry). Second: The object of knowledge, harming other sentient beings and being angry as retaliation, in what way does this lead to the seed of future suffering? That is to say, it is unreasonable to do so. The harmer oppressing oneself is actually saying that the remaining residue of the fruits of the non-virtuous actions that one has previously accumulated and committed is being exhausted. To put it in simple terms, even if others harm oneself, one should not retaliate, etc., because the harm caused by others is actually the method by which the remaining residue of the equiflow fruit of the non-virtuous actions that one has previously committed is exhausted. Thus it is said. Third: The object of knowledge, in terms of destroying the roots of virtue, there is no sin greater than impatience. What is the reason? Because, when a prince bodhisattva becomes angry with those who are weaker than himself, the virtue accumulated over hundreds of thousands of kalpas through generosity and discipline will be destroyed by that single moment of anger. Fourth: The object of knowledge, anger is the main thing that should be suppressed, because the anger of impatience causes the ripening to become an unpleasant form, and it leads people to non-dharmic evil deeds, and it also robs one of the wisdom to distinguish between what is right and what is wrong, and after death it quickly throws one into the lower realms. Here there are two parts: the general meaning and the detailed analysis. The first part is divided into three points: what is the basis, towards what object does anger arise, and how much anger arises that destroys the roots of virtue. Destroys
