If a Bodhisattva's discipline is broken, is it universally accepted that whoever breaks the discipline is considered to have broken the discipline? Even if not tainted by the four root downfalls, but bound by the clinging to the truth that holds the three circles of discipline as real, the discipline of restraint from misconduct in the continuum of a monastic Bodhisattva is such. That is necessarily so. Therefore, in the *Ratnakuta Sutra*, it says, "Light-increaser, some monks here possess discipline, abiding by the vows of individual liberation." From there, "They speak of that as self. Light-increaser, that is the first instance of a corrupt one pretending to be disciplined." And so forth. Here, too, its meaning is explained: "If that is seen as the nature of pure law, therefore, it will not become pure discipline." Because it is said so. One cannot agree, because the previous scripture, although showing that a Bodhisattva's discipline is broken, does not universally show that discipline is broken. That is necessarily so, because it is explained as the complete purity of individual liberation discipline. Some say that in the continuum of a Bodhisattva, once the pursuit of the enlightenment of Hearers and Solitary Realizers has begun, it is impossible to have the mind to uphold discipline. For the time being, it can be considered that such a situation exists, even if in the continuum of a Bodhisattva there is no mind that seeks only the enlightenment of Hearers and Solitary Realizers, but after the mind of seeking the enlightenment of Hearers and Solitary Realizers has arisen in their continuum, there still exists the upholding of discipline. That is necessarily so. Even if that situation exists, the discipline that they fully undertake and uphold with that mindset is explained as the broken discipline of a Bodhisattva. That is necessarily so. In the *Compendium*, it says, "If one practices the ten virtuous paths for hundreds of millions of eons, but generates the desire for a Solitary Conqueror Arhat, that is a flaw in discipline, a loss of discipline. That mind generation is even heavier than the four root downfalls." Because it is said so. At that time, it seems like the mind generation has been abandoned, but it needs further examination. Secondly, as a Bodhisattva on the second ground, you accumulate the sacred paths of action, that is, all the most virtuous ten virtuous actions, because the evil motivations of body, speech, and mind are destroyed, and they become pure in both instances, thus perfecting the three virtuous actions of the body, the four virtuous actions of speech, and the three virtuous actions of mind, that is, the ten virtuous actions. Thirdly, that is superior to the perfection of discipline, because it is not just one or another of such virtuous paths.

Moreover, the ten (virtuous dharmas) have also been recited in your continuum, for the sake of becoming purified in an extremely excellent way. The one on the second ground, who possesses constant purity of discipline, is the Dharma nature. You have become like the autumn moon, just as coolness and light abide in that moon, you too are adorned by the peace of closed sense doors and the light of a clearly radiant body. Fourthly, the Bodhisattva is the Dharma nature. At all times, regarding the three wheels of discipline, not just one of them, the object to be abandoned, who is the companion of abandonment, and by what is abandoned, all three are mostly and truly contrary to the mental activity that grasps as established by the self-nature of phenomena of both real and unreal things. Because the Bodhisattva's discipline is most excellent. If the discipline of individual liberation is pure, but one grasps the three wheels of discipline as true, a person who clings in that way will not become a Bodhisattva's pure discipline. Because that person views pure discipline as established by its own nature. The situation here is that, assuming that is... and therefore that is... that appears. The meaning is not directed at the Bodhisattva on the second ground. The meaning of those two, as before, must be explained to a person bound by the belief in reality, who clings to discipline as true. Because the Bodhisattva on the second ground cannot be the meaning of impure discipline. The second has four: the fruit of generosity being enjoyed in happy migrations depends on discipline, if discipline is broken it is difficult to find liberation from bad migrations, the reason for speaking about discipline after generosity, and praising discipline as the cause of both higher realms and definite goodness. The first has two: the reason why it is enjoyed not only in happy migrations but also in bad migrations, enjoying the fruit of generosity in life after life depends on discipline. The first is, the knowable is the Dharma nature. Enjoying the fruit of generosity in happy migrations depends on discipline. Depending on it, the enjoyment of the fruit of generosity from giving, the things that arise in the support of gods and humans are, even if born in the support of bad migrations, such as dragons, horses, cows, etc., there are those who can enjoy, that is, beings who gave generosity in previous lives
