The ability is seen. And, craving arises due to feeling. Those cravings also exist. And, temporarily clinging to the near attainment. Etc., these are all established through the method of refutation. Second, establishing the source of proof is divided into two parts: the sutras of the Mahayana, and also the treatises and the knowledge basis of the Hinayana sutras. The first part is: to be liberated from samsara, to attain liberation nirvana, it is necessary to realize that things have no self-nature. Because if one does not realize this, and grasps the aggregates of near attainment as true, and meditates on impermanence, suffering, etc., one will not be able to attain liberation nirvana. As it is said, in the Sutra Requested by Steadfast Resolve, for example, when a person sees the performance of a magician, etc., by showing an example, the meaning is also stated therein: Son of good family, whether it is a monk, a nun, a male lay practitioner, or a female lay practitioner, if they do not like and pay attention to the dharmas that have not been born and have not arisen, and pay attention to impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness, those should also be viewed in the same way. I will not say that for those foolish people this is the path to practice, because those are entering the wrong path. Etc. And, in the Sutra of the Example of Contemplation, it is also said: Bhagavan, please show us, by focusing on what object, sentient beings will not transcend samsara? The Bhagavan replied: Manjushri, by focusing on the self and what belongs to the self, sentient beings will not transcend samsara. Etc. Similarly, it is also explained in the Mother Sutra and the Three Hundred Verses of Wisdom, etc. The second part is the knowledge basis of treatises and Hinayana sutras. The first part is: In the Precious Garland, it is said: As long as there is clinging to the aggregates, there will be self-grasping arising from it. If there is self-grasping, there will be karma, and from that karma there will be birth. This is said. The second part is: In the Minor Vinaya Matters, it is said: Form is like a mass of foam, feeling is like a bubble on water, perception is like a mirage, formations are like a banana tree, consciousness is like an illusion. This was spoken by the Friend of the Sun (Buddha). This is said. Furthermore, the Hinayana sutras say: Emptiness

It is established because it is proclaimed. When emptiness is taught from that, the exhaustion of the nature of conditioned things is taught as emptiness. In the Mahayana scriptures, the non-arising of the nature of conditioned things is taught as emptiness. Because these two are the same in meaning as emptiness. As it is said in the Ratnavali: In the Great Vehicle, non-arising is taught, the exhaustion of others is emptiness. Exhaustion and non-arising are one in meaning, therefore, please be patient. Because it is said so. In the Sutras of the Lesser Vehicle, the exhaustion of conditioned things is taught as emptiness, not in the sense of exhaustion by an antidote, but as exhaustion by nature from the beginning. As it is said in the Uttaratantra: It is called exhaustion because it is exhausted from the beginning. Therefore, there are two ways to refute disputes about such teachings: refuting disputes explained in the commentaries, and refuting disputes not explicitly explained there. The first has two parts: the dispute and the answer. First, the teacher Lekden says: The Mahayana teachings become meaningless because the scriptures of the Lesser Vehicle teach the absence of self of phenomena. Second, the answer: It is unreasonable to argue in this way, because it contradicts both scripture and reason. First, it contradicts scripture because it contradicts all the sutras and treatises cited earlier. Second, the way it contradicts reason is: Do you say that it will make the Mahayana teachings meaningless? Or do you say that teaching emptiness in the Mahayana scriptures will become meaningless? If it is like the first statement, then it is not pervasive, because the Mahayana scriptures do not only teach subtle emptiness, but also the bodhisattva's stages, conduct, aspirations, vast dedication, and the extraordinary power of the bodhisattva. As it is said in the Ratnavali: In the Hearer Vehicle, the bodhisattva's aspirations, conduct, and complete dedication are not taught, how can one become a bodhisattva? The meaning of abiding in the conduct of enlightenment is not taught in the sutras, but it is taught in the Great Vehicle, therefore, the wise hold it. Because it is said so. If it is like the second statement, it is also not pervasive, because the scriptures of the Lesser Vehicle teach the categories of reasoning on emptiness in a concise way, while the Mahayana sutras teach emptiness.
