This is further divided into two: the ground of cause and the ground of effect. The first is further divided into two: the individual characteristics of the ten grounds, and the explanation of their qualities. The first is further divided into three: the explanation of the five, such as the Joyful Ground, the explanation of the sixth ground, which is manifest, and the explanation of the four, such as the Far-Reaching Ground. The first is further divided into five: the first ground, the Joyful Ground; the second ground, the Immaculate Ground; the third ground, the Luminous Ground; the fourth ground, the Radiant Ground; and the fifth ground, the Difficult to Train Ground. The first is further divided into three: a brief explanation of the defining characteristics of the ground, a detailed explanation of the qualities of the ground, and a conclusion through the explanation of the qualities of the ground. The first is further divided into three: the meaning of the words, the general meaning, and the examination of the limits. The first is: the sons of the Buddhas who abide on the first ground, the Joyful Ground, who have made sentient beings without inherent existence the object of compassion, whatever uncontaminated mind is focused on the emptiness of this, that ultimate mind is the Dharma. The first mind that transcends the world is so-called, because for the sake of liberating beings from samsara and so on, it is under the control of great compassion, and by the power of the aspiration of the Bodhisattva Samantabhadra, the virtues are dedicated to great enlightenment for the sake of others, so it is the first generation of ultimate mind. If so, that meaning is the meaning of temporary completion. The second is divided into two: a general explanation and an explanation of the characteristics of this ground. The first is: In this Madhyamakavatara, the characteristics of the ten and eleven grounds are explained. What is the meaning of the ground? There is also that. The Sanskrit word for ground is bhūmi, which means place or support. Since those grounds are also the place or support of qualities, they are spoken of in that way. In the self-commentary it says: The uncontaminated wisdom of the Bodhisattvas, completely possessed by compassion and so on, when analyzed, obtains the name ground, because it has become the support of qualities. Because it is said. The term ground is also not necessarily counted only from the realization of the Bodhisattva. In the Ratnavali it says: Just as in the Hearer Vehicle, the eight grounds of the Hearers are explained, so in the Great Vehicle, there are the ten grounds of the Bodhisattvas. Because it is said. There are also the eight inferior grounds, namely the lineage ground, the eighth ground,

The ground of liberation, the thin ground, the ground free from desire, the ground of realizing the results of actions, the ground of the Hearers, the ground of the Solitary Realizers—these are the eight grounds. From the perspective of ultimate truth, there is a way to divide them into ten grounds, because they are established as the uncontaminated grounds of the Mahayana Arya beings who directly realize the ultimate truth through being embraced by special means such as great compassion and the mind of enlightenment. Therefore, on the path of learning, there is no uncontaminated wisdom other than the non-conceptual wisdom of meditative equipoise of the Arya beings. As stated in the commentary: "Until the attainment of Buddhahood, there is no wisdom that is not the non-conceptual wisdom of meditative equipoise of the Arya beings, which is not defiled by the imprints of ignorance. Moreover, this occurs alternately; that is, when one arises from that meditative equipoise, wisdom that is defiled by imprints arises." Therefore, this refers to such wisdom. Otherwise, it would be unreasonable to say that there is no uncontaminated wisdom that is not wisdom, since the cessation of suffering, which is uncontaminated, also exists in the continuum of the Arya beings who are learners. There is a reason to divide them into ten, such as the Joyful One, through being embraced by special means, because they are established from the perspective of the number of qualities, whether or not one has obtained the power to overcome opposing forces, the way in which the practice of generosity and so forth is enhanced, and the way in which one takes birth as a result of maturation. As stated in the auto-commentary: "Moreover, the distinctions of the grounds, such as the Joyful One, are established from the perspective of the increasing number of qualities that increase from higher to higher, the attainment of extraordinary power, the increase of the perfections such as generosity, and the increase of the results of maturation and so forth. For this, there is no distinction made by the difference of their own nature." Therefore, there is also the meaning that there is no distinction made by the difference of their own nature, which means that all ten non-conceptual wisdoms of the ten grounds are uncontaminated wisdoms, and that they are the same in that sense, and not that they are different in nature. These are different in nature, because these ten must be established as cause and effect. Although these ten are different in nature, there is no difference in kind in their nature. For example, just as worldly people determine the traces of a bird flying in the sky according to their own understanding, and tell others what it is.
