walking, having great fame and being worshipped by gods and humans, having abundant wealth, obtaining kingship, having a long life, having a body like a vajra, having perfect marks and signs, being born in higher realms, and quickly attaining liberation. The benefits of giving a throne or seat are ten: becoming the lord of the world, receiving praise, having fame spread, having much happiness, possessing vehicles and teachings, obtaining service, having great power, having great enjoyment, and so on, as before. The benefits of giving shoes are ten: obtaining vehicles, having well-placed feet, having strength when walking, not tiring the body, not injuring the feet, obtaining miraculous powers, possessing service, having great enjoyment, and so on, as before. The benefits of giving vessels are ten: becoming a vessel of qualities, having a radiant complexion, having a gentle mind, easily obtaining drink, not being born as a preta, pleasing gods and humans, having great enjoyment, and so on, as before. The benefits of giving food are ten: having a long life and a good complexion, having strength, possessing memory and intelligence, being without fear, being desired and delighted by gods and humans, having great enjoyment, and so on, as before. The benefits of giving a vehicle are ten: having soft feet and being very stable, having the power to walk, having much happiness, having fewer unfriendly people, accomplishing the feet of miraculous powers, not being burdened by vehicles, obtaining service, being born in higher realms, and so on. The benefits of giving a dwelling are many: being without fear, obtaining beds and clothes, obtaining the five desirable qualities, being born into noble castes such as kshatriyas and brahmins, becoming a universal monarch, or being born in any of the six desire realms, as well as the form and formless realms of the gods; if one wishes to be born there, one can make a wish and be born there. If one wishes to quickly attain the fruits of stream-entry and so on, up to buddhahood, one's wishes will be fulfilled. The benefits of giving drink are ten: becoming complete in faculties, having good articulation, pleasing others with one's speech, having a gentle mind, easily obtaining drink, having a smiling face, and not being born as a preta.

The birth and enjoyment increase and so on as before. There are ten benefits of ordination: not being attached to sons, wives, and family property, not being greedy for desires, liking temples, respecting the Three Jewels, abandoning the works of demons, seeking virtuous Dharma, abandoning the causes of evil destinies, being admired by gods and humans, constantly seeing the Buddha's teachings, being reborn in heaven, and quickly being liberated from suffering. There are ten benefits of living in a monastery: abandoning noise, liking solitude, accomplishing meditation, longing for the Buddha, rejoicing, having physical and mental well-being, having no obstacles, understanding the meaning of the Dharma that is heard, and being able to obtain tranquility and insight. Therefore, there are ten benefits of going for alms, and there are also ten benefits of entering the village without fear at that time, but they are not written down. These are as stated in the Sutra on the Differentiation and Transformation of Actions. Because these two have different translations, and the meanings of the words are both the same and different, both are taken into account. Furthermore, in the Sutra on the Benefits of Creating Images of the Tathagata, a summary of the meaning of the five benefits of making images is given: residing in a vast palace, being famous, having much joy, having long life, having much happiness, having much wealth and abundant enjoyment, having many friends, having a good and beautiful appearance, being pleasing to look at, having all limbs and parts complete, becoming a wheel-turning king and a regional king, becoming a king of the gods, and also attaining Buddhahood. Furthermore, in the Sutra of Verses on Circumambulating Stupas, it says: By the merit of circumambulating stupas, gods, nagas, yakshas, gandharvas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, are always offered great food. One obtains the difficult-to-find leisure. Even for just a moment, by the merit of circumambulating stupas, one can abandon the eight unfree states.
