It shows that it is contradictory to simultaneously admit dependent origination and self-establishment. It shows that all dharmas are without self-nature but like illusions. The first part is: Because the mind is controlled by the ignorance of unknowing, it is enslaved by its power or strength. Any non-Buddhist opponent who disagrees with the teacher, when he hears the sound of you saying that all dharmas are without self-nature, what is there to be surprised about that he feels unbearable pain in his heart? Because they themselves are controlled by ignorance, and this is also the doctrine of their teacher. Then what should be surprised? The ultimate conclusion of the precious treasure of the teacher's words is to rely on arising, that is, to admit dependent origination. However, you also say that all dharmas are empty of self-nature. Therefore, I, Lobsang Drakpa, am surprised at these self-affirming beings of my own school who cannot bear this sound, just like riding a horse but looking for the horse itself, because they do not realize that the emptiness of self-nature of all dharmas is the meaning of dependent origination. In some collections of works, it is said to be "relying on arising", but in some dharma texts it is said to be "arising". Surprise means: Generally speaking, it can be used for belittling, expecting, praising, etc., but here it is used for belittling, which means shame. This is similar to what is said in the Ornament for Clear Realization: "Other dharmas also exist, and the teacher also exists in what is to be known, whoever says to eliminate obstacles, I have a rare thought about that." The second part is: Although the supreme means of leading things to the realization of the state of no self-nature is dependent origination, the realists only cling to the name of dependent origination, and then they hold that things are established by self-nature. So, now these realists, for the unparalleled state where the noble ones are good at walking, what other means can be used to guide the good way of realizing the selflessness of things that the teacher pleases? That is to say, there is no other special way to guide. This is like medicine is a way to cure diseases, but it is not digested but causes diseases.
