Because the eye consciousness that perceives variegation does not directly see the tip of the lamp. As it says in the "Seven Treatises, Dispelling Darkness": It must be assumed that even the root consciousness that perceives the tip of the lamp as variegated directly sees the tip of the lamp, and these are established through experience. Because it says so, there is no fault. Because at that time, the consciousness that perceives that there is variegation at the tip of the lamp is considered a mistaken consciousness, but merely the appearance of the tip of the lamp together with variegation is not considered a mistaken consciousness, it seems to be this meaning, it needs to be examined. Also, when the variegated-grasping root direct perception looks at a variegation like a peacock feather, is it that one variegated-grasping eye consciousness is produced? Or are individual eye consciousnesses produced equal to the number of parts? If it is the former, then at that time, does the part that sees one like yellow see red etc. or not? If it sees, then one part of consciousness will see all parts of the object, and if it does not see, then for each part, it is also necessary to produce each dependent consciousness. If it is according to the latter, it is also unreasonable, because if one thinks that way, then when looking at countless parts, one must also admit that countless eye consciousnesses are produced, which is unreasonable, because it is too extreme. If you ask like that, there is no fault. The reason for that is, as it says in the "Seven Treatises, Dispelling Darkness": At that time, those individual aspects are parts of the eye consciousness, and the aspect that is the collection of those parts is the variegated-grasping eye consciousness, and those parts are the same substance as the whole, and the parts are different substances from each other, it should be understood like this. It should be thought of like this. However, this reason is difficult, because of this, even the Indian scholars have different schools of thought regarding the equality of number of grasper and grasped, non-duality of variety, and half an egg, etc. Also, for those consciousnesses, do they grasp after the aspect of the object appears, or do they grasp directly without appearing? If it is the former, are those aspects consciousness or not consciousness? If it is consciousness, then it is unreasonable, because the meanings of those objects also become consciousness. If it is not consciousness, then it is unreasonable, as it says in the "Seven Treatises, Dispelling Darkness": What is the reason why the grasped aspect of eye consciousness is eye consciousness? If asked, then it should be said, like this, the grasped aspect of eye consciousness is not eye consciousness, there is no other choice, it is the object of ignorance.

Because it is said, "If it must be assumed, then it is unreasonable," there is no fault. This means that it must be assumed that the cognitive aspect of eye consciousness, etc., is the apprehended aspect of that consciousness. In that case, although there is the meaning-aspect of the object because the aspect of the object appears and is apprehended, the meaning-aspect of eye consciousness, etc., is not the aspect of eye consciousness, etc., these are two ways. All schools of thought other than the Vaibhashikas believe that whenever any consciousness apprehends its object, the aspect of the object appears and is apprehended. The Vaibhashikas do not believe that consciousness has an apprehended aspect, and although they acknowledge that it has an experiential and clear part, they do not acknowledge self-awareness. As it says in the "Dispelling Darkness of the Seven Treatises": "The Vaibhashikas also acknowledge that the experiential and clear part of consciousness is like that, but they do not acknowledge that it is self-awareness, and the reason for that is that because they acknowledge that consciousness is without aspects, they do not acknowledge even a little of what is called the apprehended aspect." Because of this. Regarding the Vaibhashikas' acceptance of consciousness as being without aspects, the Sautrantikas and others state the fault in this way: "Then, when two people, an enemy and a friend, simultaneously look at the body of one person, that person's body would become the nature of both being liked and not being liked. Because at that time, the consciousness of the enemy and the friend appears as both liking and disliking, because the aspect does not appear and is clearly seen, it is said to be a constant acceptance. As it says in the "Pramanavarttika": "Because of the fault of not being multiple entities." Because of this. It cannot be accepted, because those two are mutually contradictory. Also, are the appearances in sense consciousness of two moons, the appearance of hair moving, the appearance of mirages as water, and the appearance of reflections as faces, are those appearances real or unreal? If they are real, then the appearance of vases, etc., in conceptual thought would also become real. If they are not real, then it is unreasonable. As it says in the "Mahavyutpatti": "The appearance of hair moving in sense consciousness, the appearance of mirages as water, and the appearance of reflections as faces are all sense objects, because they are objects of appearance for sense consciousness." Because of this. If you ask this, then the latter examination is accepted, and the first examination is not accepted, because the object of appearance of conceptual thought and the object of appearance of sense consciousness are different.
