From afflictions, one accumulates virtuous and non-virtuous karma. From that karma, again, from the clear light of death, the bardo is formed, and then one experiences rebirth, etc., thus revolving in the cycle of birth and death. In the process of arising, one dies as the breath becomes weaker and weaker; in the process of reversing, one is born as the breath becomes coarser and coarser. Their root cannot transcend the clear light. To summarize their meaning: ཡས་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning) shows how the three, appearance, increase, and attainment, gradually dissolve into the clear light at the time of death in the bardo. མས་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning) shows how the three appearances arise from the clear light at the time of reversal. ཨེ་ཐེམ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning) shows how three categories of conceptualization arise from self-nature. ཤུས་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning) shows that the three appearances are the root of the eighty self-natures. ཨེས་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning) shows how the self-natures arise from the third appearance. ཀ་སྨིན་མ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning) shows how the elements, aggregates, and sense bases are born in the womb. སས་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning) shows the five wisdoms of the four times. ཏཾ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning) shows how, after birth, the sensory consciousness enters its object. ཡེས་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning) shows how, at the time of birth, the breath enters and exits through the nostrils. བྷས་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning) shows how one revolves in samsara. Second, explaining the meaning of the eight letters ga, wa, na, etc., there are two parts: how to meditate on body isolation; and how to cultivate the three emptinesses in meditative equipoise and then expand them in the post-meditation state. The first part has five points: meditating on the five aggregates as the five families; meditating on the four elements as the four mothers; meditating on the eyes, etc., as earth essences, etc.; meditating on the limbs as wrathful deities; and the great secret, the body isolation of the same family. The first is: The aggregates that arise in going, are the nature of the five Buddhas. They are urged by name as the five perfect enlightenments. That is to say, 'gati' with 'ga' added is going. The five aggregates that arise in the six realms of going, in their respective birthplaces, are also the nature of the five Buddhas, such as the form aggregate, Vairochana, etc. Each of these five is again urged by the name of the five perfect enlightenments of the five families. Second, meditating on the four elements as the four mothers is: Vā na, wind, fire, water, and earth, the four, such as the eyes, etc., are the three possessing the nature of wisdom, knowable, Buddha, Bodhisattva.

giving. That is to say, adding "wa" to "wan" makes "wayu," which is wind. The four elements of wind, fire, water, and earth are meditated upon as the essence of the four goddesses, Mamaqi, White-clad, and Tara, represented by the eyes and so on. The method of meditation is to meditate on the subtle in meditative equipoise, and then in the three wisdoms of appearance, increase, and attainment, to combine bliss and emptiness. Finally, after emerging from meditative equipoise, remember the experience of meditative equipoise, and know that all appearances as objects are the pure nature of the three wisdoms. Then, meditating on the essence of the four goddesses will grant enlightenment in this life. Third, meditating on the eyes and so on as Earth-essence and so on: Earth, the body of all Tathagatas, sealed with four mudras, in the nature of eyes and so on, Earth-essence and so on, the increasing sons. That is to say, adding "rba" to "earth" makes "sarba," which means all or everything. Meditate on oneself as the body of all Tathagatas, that is, the body. How to meditate? Meditate on oneself as the deity's body, sealed with the four mudras of the great mudra body, speech, mind, and activity. That is, on the self that is meditated upon as the deity, with the increasing sons, that is, Earth-essence and so on, in sequence with Hand Vajra, Space-essence, World自在, Remover of Obstacles, Manjushri, with the eyes and so on, that is, the nature of the senses of ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind. Fourth: Those who rejoice in play, the wrathful kings, the mighty ones, they are the essence of the directions and corners, contemplate them in the arms, limbs, and so on. That is to say, Arbhanta is subduing. Play or subduing, that is, the wrathful kings, the mighty ones who rejoice in subduing the wicked, those who abide as the essence of the guardians of the directions and corners, contemplate them as the essence of the ten limbs, such as the arms. Here, some say that mentioning the arms implies the arms of the lord of death, Yama, but this is a matter for investigation. Although the word "arms" appears first here, it seems that there is no necessity to combine it with the lord of death, Yama. Just as it was said earlier in the context of the body isolation of the four consorts: wind, fire, water, earth, the four, eyes and so on. Although it is said in this way, it does not mean that wind and eyes must be combined. Here, the body isolation of Maitreya and Samantabhadra is not explicitly stated.
