Previously written at the request of Geshe Sherab Tashi. Kachuwa Lobsang Samdrub, who combines faith and wisdom, and Abbot Jamyang Senge, thinking that it might also benefit others, wished to have it printed for their own Dharma share. Composed by the Shakya monk named Shedrup. Auspicious! By the power of the prayer to uphold the sacred Dharma, being extremely skilled in explaining the meaning of the scriptures. Having prostrated to the feet of the great Charioteer (Tsongkhapa), I will now explain these scattered essential points of the text. Here, there are explanations of the three, such as virtue, the three characteristics, and the classification of mind and mental factors. First, regarding the three: virtue, non-virtue, and neutral. First, regarding virtue. The Dharma that can produce its own result, namely the result of maturation, and a pleasant result, and is predicted, is the characteristic of virtue. Differentiated by the way of verbal expression, there are four types: ultimate virtue, intrinsic virtue, intentional virtue, and associated virtue. The first is like liberation, which is called virtue, but is not actually virtue. The second is like faith. The third is like actions motivated by faith. The fourth is like the mind and mental events associated with that action. It is necessary to understand that this also applies to actions such as abandoning the taking of life. Second, regarding non-virtue. The Dharma that can produce its own result, namely the result of maturation, and an unpleasant result, and is predicted, is the characteristic of non-virtue. Differentiated by the way of verbal expression, there are four types: ultimate non-virtue, intrinsic non-virtue, intentional non-virtue, and associated non-virtue. The first is like samsara, which is not actually non-virtue, but is called non-virtue. The second is like lack of faith in the Three Jewels. The third is like actions motivated by this. The fourth is like the mind and mental events associated with this. It should be understood that this also applies to actions such as taking life. Third, regarding neutral. The Dharma that cannot produce a result of maturation, whether pleasant or unpleasant, is the characteristic of neutral. Differentiated, there are four types, such as ultimate neutral. The first is like emptiness. The second is like children's games, which are neither beneficial nor harmful. The third is motivated by this.

For example, like the thought of creating a pure land. The fourth is the mind and mental factors that are in accordance with it. Furthermore, it has two types: obscured and unspecified, and unobscured and unspecified. The first is all grasping at self of persons and grasping at truth. The second is space and other unconditioned phenomena. Of these three, the first should be adopted, the middle should be abandoned, and the last should be left in equanimity. Second, to briefly explain the classification of the three natures according to the Madhyamaka school, there are three: the completely imputed nature, the dependent nature, and the thoroughly established nature. The first is merely what is imputed by self-grasping conceptual thought, which is the definition of the completely imputed nature. It is divided into two: the completely imputed nature of nominal designation and the completely imputed nature of complete cessation of characteristics. The first has two: the completely imputed nature imputed to the essence and the particular, and the completely imputed nature other than that. The first is: the imputed aspect of imputing "form" to blue is the essence; the imputed aspect of imputing "this blue is born, ceases, is impermanent, is beautiful," etc., is the completely imputed nature imputed to the particular. Similarly, the aspect of imputing "pot" to a bulging belly is the essence; the aspect of imputing "large, small," etc., is the completely imputed nature imputed to the particular. All phenomena can be represented by this. The second is space, non-existence, permanence, and so on. Any phenomenon, whether it is the same as it, different from it, or its opposite, etc., is the completely imputed nature of nominal designation. The second, the completely imputed nature of complete cessation of characteristics, is like the self imputed by grasping at the self of persons, and the truly established imputed by grasping at truth, and the kinds of non-existent things such as sound being permanent. The second is: born from its own causes and conditions, which is the definition of the dependent nature. It is divided into two: pure and impure dependent natures, or three: form, consciousness, and non-associated compositional factors. Dependent nature, thing, impermanence, conditioned, and born are synonymous and easy to understand, so they are not mentioned here. The third is: the ultimate object of the pure path, which is the definition of the thoroughly established nature. It is divided into sixteen emptinesses. Emptiness and thoroughly established nature are synonymous, therefore, whatever phenomenon of form, etc., is, its own self is not truly existent, and not ultimately existent, emptiness is pervasive, and similarly, it is the thoroughly established nature.
