Bas. It is held that if defilement is exhausted, the mind will also be exhausted. They accept two kinds of valid cognition, direct perception and inference, and also four other valid cognitions besides these. The identification and refutation of each valid cognition are explained in detail in texts such as the Essence of Madhyamaka. Eighth, the Shiva school. Among the names of teachers and philosophical systems, Ishvara or Shiva, and the Akshapada, are the teachers. Because Ishvara Shiva is regarded as a god, they are called Shaivas. There are three types due to slightly different views. The great Ishvara possesses eight qualities such as minuteness and lightness. Moreover, because he does many things with his hands, feet, eyes, etc., he is minute. He purifies the sky and air, and gathers and expands earth and water, so he is light. He is the cause of all containers and contents, so he is the lord. He dominates everything, so he is sovereign. He can go wherever he wants according to his mind, so he is able to go anywhere. He is worthy of being worshiped by all beings, so he is worthy of worship. He is able to distinguish where the qualities of dust, darkness, and power reside, so he is endowed with all desires. He is able to grant whatever liberation and high status one desires, so he dwells in joy, these are the eight qualities. Ishvara is believed to exist on Mount Kailash. Because on the snowy Mount Kailash, the goddess Uma and hundreds of thousands of attendants and children reside. They believe that all containers and contents are created by this Ishvara. Because there are various kinds of different things in the world, these are created by Ishvara. They think that mountains and grasses, etc., have no shapers. I also think that the permanent self as conceived by the pervader school is like that, and they believe in five suchnesses, such as the suchness of the element. They consider the bliss of the dropping of bindus and some combinations of winds as the path to liberation. They believe that the consciousness at the time of sexual union is liberation. As it is said: When the powerful Ishvara unites, Supreme bliss, non-dual supreme. And so on. And it is said: The accomplishment of sexual union is liberation. Ninth, the Vaisheshika school. Among the names of teachers and philosophical systems, the sage Uluka, who mistook an owl for a god, or another name, the eater of filth, is the teacher. Because they follow the words of the Vaisheshika Sutra composed by him, they are called Vaisheshikas or Ulukas. This school believes that the self is an all-pervading material form.

They believe in the existence of a self. The distinction lies in having two selves, inner and outer. The inner self resides within the body, housing the collection of senses. The outer self is above the body, aiding the inner self. Glorious Chandra says, "The self is spoken of as being of two kinds, namely, the inner self and the outer self. Among them, the inner self is that which dwells within the body," and so on. Now, most people's conception of the self seems to align with this view, as the inner self they conceive is deeply hidden within. This view's six categories of meaning and other aspects are shared with the Vaiśeṣika school and will be explained later. Tenth is the Vaiśeṣika school. Among the teachers, names, and tenets, the sage Kaṇāda is the teacher. Because they follow the Vaiśeṣika view established by that teacher, they are called Vaiśeṣikas. Both the former and this school assert that valid cognition consists of three types: direct perception, inference, and scriptural testimony. Regarding knowable objects, they fix the number of six categories of meaning. In particular, this school believes that the self, like space, is an all-pervasive and great entity. The six categories of meaning are: substance (dravya), quality (guṇa), action (karma), generality (sāmānya), particularity (viśeṣa), and inherence (samavāya). There are nine substances: the four elements of earth, etc., plus space, making five; time, direction, self, and mind, making nine. There are twenty-four qualities: the five sense objects, number, measure, distinctness, conjunction, disjunction, priority and posteriority, the five cognitions from eye-consciousness to body-consciousness, self, pleasure, desire, aversion, effort, merit, demerit, and the force of action. Action is of five kinds: lifting, placing, contracting, extending, and moving. Generality is a property common to the three categories of substance, quality, and action. It is considered to be a pervasive generality like existence, and a limited generality like a pot. Particularity is distinction, such as the distinction between white and black. Inherence is of two kinds: the relation of dependence and support, like the different dependence of clothes, and the relation of non-difference in location. Detailed explanations should be sought elsewhere. Both the Vaiśeṣika school and this school believe that all containers and contents are made by Īśvara from atoms as the cause. When the previous containers and contents are empty, the atoms of the four elements
