Thus, this is uncertain. As stated in the *Flame of Reasoning*: Just as without eyes, yet due to being near iron, the iron is attracted. Thus, and so on, it refutes the view that trees have life. Also, in the *Essence of the Middle Way*: For the sake of taming elephants, and for the sake of taming beings. Thus, and so on. Also, in the *Precious Garland*: When asked, "Does the world have an end?" The Victorious One remained silent. Because such profound Dharma is not spoken to beings who are not vessels. Therefore, the wise know that the all-knowing one is omniscient. As it says, our teacher saw the necessity of offering barley and Devadatta's ordination, and therefore showed ordination and so on, not because he did not know them, therefore showing that omniscience exists. What the necessity is, is clear in the *Skillful Means Sutra* and so on. Now, whether internal or external, some do not accept the validity of karma and its effects, and some insiders have wrong views that doubt karma and its effects, holding some reasons for wrong views, which can be included in those bad views mentioned earlier. However, those non-Buddhists have many proofs because they are skilled in the philosophy of their own tenets, while those with wrong views have not studied any philosophy, so they are in the darkness of extreme ignorance and have gone astray. Doing good by holding karma and its effects as truly established, although not a special cause of liberation, goes to the cause of happiness, while viewing karma and its effects as non-existent and not believing in them is a direct cause of bad migrations. As the *Precious Garland* says: Those who believe in existence go to happy migrations, those who believe in non-existence go to bad migrations. Therefore, it is said. Some may think, it is necessary to know the tenets of the inner schools, but what is the point of knowing the tenets of the outer schools? To this, the wise say that it is necessary to know all the tenets of one's own and others' schools. If one does not know that, one will not know well that the tenets of other schools are inferior and the tenets of one's own school are superior, so holding on to superiority and inferiority without knowing so will become holding on to the superiority of one's own side, or just one's own preferred side. Furthermore, it is necessary to know that, for example, just as a boat is needed to cross the ocean.

In order to cross to the other shore of the ocean of philosophical tenets, it is necessary to know in this way. As it is said in the Madhyamaka-hrdaya: 'If one wishes to cross like crossing a river, just as one completely grasps the boats, likewise, even if it should be abandoned, it is proper to hold it by inference.' Therefore, our own Je Lama father and sons expertly studied all the tenets of self and others. As it is said in the Togs-brjod: 'Therefore, Mipam Chöje...' up to 'Not satisfied, studied everything in detail.' And in the Praise of Dependent Arising: 'At that time, when studying the many treatises of self and other schools...' and so on. In Gyaltsab's praise: 'Reached the other shore of self and other tenets...' and so on. And in the many writings of Khedrup, he himself acknowledged being expert in all tenets. It is said: The various piles of bad views of eternalism and nihilism, like high rocky mountains, were instantly destroyed by the thousand kinds of reasoning of Panchen Nagarjuna, like a great thunderbolt of heavenly iron. Although it is proclaimed like a thunderous sound to all that there are superior and inferior tenets of self and others, not knowing the difference and holding one's own side as superior, it is said to be possessed by the demon of partiality. Therefore, having become familiar with the many treatises of the wise, and seeking the wisdom of the wise, may this exposition, which does not err in stating the views of the wise, please the assemblies of the wise. Thus, in 'The Gathering of the Essence of All Tenets of Self and Others, the Opening of the Door of Intelligence,' it is the section on refuting the views of other schools.
