These three are considered to be characteristics of the year. Secondly, in general, there are twelve months in a year. If it is determined by which constellation appears on the fifteenth day, then the months of Head (Mrigasira), Kṛttikā, Rohiṇī, Ārdrā, Punarvasu, Puṣya, Āśleṣā, Maghā, Pūrvaphalgunī, Uttaraphalgunī, Hasta, and Citrā are sure to appear. Which of these months is full of which constellation? From the fifteenth of the eleventh month being full of Mrigasira, to the fifteenth of the tenth month being full of Kṛttikā. When there is a leap month, it is not certain, because the fifteenth of the eleventh month may be full of Hasta, and the fifteenth of the tenth month may be full of Citrā. Because it is determined by the full constellation, those months are also called Kṛttikā month, etc. According to the Chinese, there are twelve months in a year: the month of the Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig, and the year also has the same twelve. Just as the year of the Rat has five elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water, the other years are also divided into five, so it is called the sixty-year cycle. The difference between Yin and Yang is: Rat, Tiger, Dragon, Horse, Monkey, and Dog are Yang. Ox, Rabbit, Snake, Sheep, Rooster, and Pig are Yin. Like this, there are six Yang and six Yin. According to the Indians, in the commentary on the Hevajra Tantra, it says: 'Superior Birth, Name Birth, White, Very Joyful, Lord of Birth, Angaraka, Auspicious Face, Substance, Possessing Age, Holding, Independent, Many Grains, Joyful Intoxication, Warrior, Superior Group, Various Suns, Sun Deliverer, Earth Protector, Inexhaustible, Subduing All, Universal Holder, Contrary, Various Changes, Dull, Joyful, Very Victorious, Victorious One, Intoxicating One, Evil Face, Golden Vine, Various Vines, Transformer, Possessing All, Increasing, Good Maker, Beautiful Maker, Wrathful One, Various Divisions, Overpowering, Monkey, Phurba, Peaceful, Common, Opposing One, Universal Holder, Reckless, Universal Joy, Rakshasa, Fire, Reddish Yellow, Messenger of Time, Meaningful Accomplishment, Fierce, Evil Wisdom, Great Drum, Blood Vomiter, Red Man, Wrathful One, Destroyer.' Like this, those from Fire Rabbit to Fire Tiger have the same meaning. Third, there are two types of constellation classification: the classification of fixed stars and the overall classification of constellations. The first is: Kṛttikā, Rohiṇī, Mrigasira, and Ārdrā.

To the east are Sa-so, Gyal-kag, the seven stars. The mouth and throat are the four fire stars. To the north are Nagpa, Sa-ri, Sa-ga. To the northeast are Lha-tsam, Nyon-nub, Chu-to. To the west are Chu-me, Dro-zhin, Bi-zhin. To the southwest are Mon-dra, Mon-dru, Khrum-to, Khrum-me. To the south are Nam-dru, Tha-kar, Dra-nye. As it is said, there are twenty-eight constellations, but Bi-zhin and Dro-zhin are combined into one constellation, so there are twenty-seven constellations. The reason for dividing the four directions in this way is that when the Pleiades appear in the evening in this Jambudvipa, these constellations are located in those directions, and it is considered auspicious to do things in those directions with those constellations. Secondly, these stars are the immeasurable palaces where the gods reside, and their number is, as it is said: Two billion, eighty-five million, should be known as the number of stars. The large ones are eighteen yojanas in diameter, and the small ones are four or one yojana in diameter. This is said in terms of the four continents being located on top of one another. The measurement of a yojana is, as stated in the Treasury of Knowledge: A moment, an ultimate atom, and, an atom, and similarly, iron filings, rabbit, sheep, and ox, sunlight dust and ashes, and that which arises from that, and similarly, a finger joint is called seven times increased. Twenty-four fingers are an elbow, and four elbows are a bow. Those five hundred together, that is called a yojana, and eight yojanas are a krosha. As it is said, seven ultimate atoms are one atom, and similarly, seven atoms gathered together become one iron dust, until the finger joint is seven times increased. The remainder of twenty-four fingers being an elbow, etc., is easy to understand. In the Vinaya, it is said to be six times increased, but the meaning is the same. Thirdly, if we consider what is said in the Vinaya and Abhidharma, the seasons can be divided into four sections, because they can be divided into three, four, five, and six types. The first is, the four months of winter, spring, and summer. The second is, winter, spring, summer, and autumn are each divided into three months: upper, middle, and lower. The third is, the four months of winter and spring, a total of eight months. One month of just summer. Short summer refers to one day. Long summer, which is less than one day, is three months. The fourth is, early winter, late winter, early spring, late spring
