Furthermore, in the Lamrim, there is only a mention of "joining," without further clarification. I find it reasonable that some scholars say "the first part of joining," because according to others, that would lead to the five aggregates revolving, and it would be a fault of contradicting the Lamrim. The "old age" of the twelfth link, old age and death, is the stage where the aggregates mature and change; "death" is the abandonment or discarding of similar aggregates. Here, "old age" refers to all stages from the second moment of birth to the aging of age, and is not necessarily just the aging that is commonly known in the world; and "death" is not necessarily just the state of being already dead. The reason for placing old age and death together in one limb is that the order of the two is uncertain. As for sorrow and lamentation, etc., they are not necessarily limbs, but are merely mentioned incidentally to create a sense of weariness. Third, the summary is divided into two: a brief summary and a summary of afflictions. The first is: these twelve links can be summarized by two, cause and effect, that is, the cause and effect that propels and the cause and effect that accomplishes. That is, ignorance, action, and consciousness at the time of cause are the cause that propels; consciousness at the time of effect, name and form, the six sense sources, contact, and feeling, these five and a half links are the propelled effect; craving, grasping, and existence are the cause that accomplishes; and birth and old age are included in the limbs of the accomplished effect. What is propelled? The five and a half links from consciousness at the time of effect to feeling. By what is it propelled? By the action of action conditioned by ignorance. How is it propelled? In the manner of imprinting the karmic imprints on the consciousness at the time of cause. The meaning of propelled is: if there are causes that accomplish such as craving, then those effects are made able to be accomplished. By what is it accomplished? By grasping conditioned by craving. What is accomplished? Birth and old age and death. How is it accomplished? In the manner of making the karmic imprints of action that action imprinted on consciousness powerful. Therefore, the nature of the propelling limb and the accomplished limb here are the same. The second is the summary of afflictions, that is, the noble ones

As ླུ་སྒྲུབ་ said, "The first, eighth, and ninth are afflictions, the second and tenth are karma, and the remaining seven are suffering." Thus, ignorance, craving, and grasping are the arising of afflictions; action and existence are the arising of karma; and the seven, such as consciousness at the time of fruition, are included in the truth of suffering. Fourth, the function is: ignorance obscures suchness, action plants the seed of the aggregates of the next life, consciousness leads to the place of birth, name and form hold the body, the six sense sources complete the body, contact experiences the changes of the object, feeling experiences the fruition, craving re-accumulates the aggregates, grasping combines with the accomplishment of the aggregates, existence makes the aggregates of the next life manifest, and birth and aging and death cause suffering to any person who possesses them. Fifth, how many lifetimes are completed: these twelve links, if fast, can be completed in two lifetimes; if slow, they can be completed in three lifetimes; some wise people say that there are those who complete them in four lifetimes, but the view of the "Lamrim" is as before. Among them, the way to complete in two lifetimes is from the perspective of experiencing change after birth. For example, someone arises from ignorance and accumulates the karma of action to be born as a desire god on top of the consciousness at the time of cause. Before death, they nourish this karma with craving and grasping, making the karma of existence powerful and taking birth. Then, in the previous life, there are six and a half links, and in the next life, when they are born as a god, the seven and a half links such as consciousness at the time of fruition are accomplished. Completing in three lifetimes refers to the perspective of experiencing change in different numbers of times. For example, someone leaves the habit of karma on top of consciousness with the power of ignorance, and without nourishing it with craving and grasping, they are born as an animal. Then, on this basis, they nourish it with craving and grasping, making the karma of existence powerful and mighty, and taking birth as a desire god. Then, the first two links are in the first life, the three of craving, grasping, and existence are in the second life, and the remaining links are completed in the third life. If one admits that there may be completion in four lifetimes, then craving...
