Although there are many ways to train, They are summarized into two: all sentient beings Knowing them as their own mothers, remembering their kindness, Repaying their kindness, and the pleasing loving-kindness, Great compassion, and pure higher intention, six. The result is the mind of enlightenment, the seven aspects. Training through the sevenfold instruction of cause and effect, Taking upon oneself the suffering of all sentient beings, Giving one's own happiness and virtue to others. The way to train is to train with loving-kindness and compassion, In short, from the suffering of all sentient beings, The desire to protect, the compassion that is not artificial, Whoever has the supreme mind of enlightenment, Whether born or to be born, is the main cause. Without harming other sentient beings even slightly, Merely abiding in peace and gentleness is not a Bodhisattva. If so, then even Hearers, Solitary Realizers, and Arhats, Would become Bodhisattvas. Even with just a slight harm to some others, It is not wrong to establish them as sons of the Victorious Ones. If so, then Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, Taking the form of kings, others who have gone astray, Binding and striking, etc., would become without fault, Although Bodhisattvas are purified from manifest actions, It would become impossible to act for the benefit of others. Furthermore, ordinary beings who are Bodhisattvas, Would also become without anger, etc., therefore, Merely by external behavior, the sons of the Victorious Ones, Whether they are or not, cannot be determined as they are. Therefore, in order to liberate all sentient beings from suffering, And to establish them in the state of Buddhahood, One's own mind that strives for omniscience, If there is a supreme mind that is not just words, Then it is established as a Bodhisattva. The benefits of this and the wisdom that realizes emptiness, Are extensively explained in the Sutras. Having generated that mind, one should engage in the six perfections, This is the summary of the conduct of the sons of the Victorious Ones. As it is said that it is included in the six perfections, In this way, it is very important to train. There are three types of giving, The giving of Dharma, material things, and fearlessness. Teaching the Dharma to others is the giving of Dharma, Giving food and so on is the giving of material things. Protecting from fear is the giving of fearlessness. There are three types of ethics: the ethics of discipline, the ethics of gathering virtuous Dharmas, and the ethics of benefiting sentient beings. Avoiding transgressions that are prescribed and naturally wrong is the ethics of discipline.

Discipline, for the sake of generating, abiding, and increasing the six perfections, entering into practice is accumulating virtue. Properly accomplishing the benefit of sentient beings, accomplishing the benefit of sentient beings is discipline. Patience is of three types: patience with harm, accepting suffering, and patience with certainty of attaining the Dharma. Patience with others harming oneself is the first type. Patience with the arising of suffering is the second type. Knowing the nature of Dharma and generating faith is considered the third. Diligence is of three types: armor-like diligence, accumulating virtue, and accomplishing the benefit of sentient beings. Not being weary in striving for the benefit of sentient beings is the first. Accumulating virtue and accomplishing the benefit of sentient beings are as before. Meditation is of two types: mundane and supramundane. Or possessing the union of calm abiding and insight. Wisdom is of three types: conventional truth, and above the two wisdoms of realizing ultimate truth, there is also the wisdom of accomplishing the benefit of sentient beings. Meditation and wisdom, these two each, are well explained as calm abiding and insight. The detailed classifications of these can be learned elsewhere. Giving, speaking pleasantly, teaching the sacred Dharma, for the sake of the teachings, engaging in the conduct of taming those to be tamed, and one's own conduct being in accordance with meaning, are the four ways of gathering disciples. With the six perfections, one ripens one's own mind-stream, and with the four ways of gathering, one accomplishes the benefit of others. Gathering a retinue is also said to be supreme. Giving will cause one to obtain enjoyment and wealth. One will obtain friendship, love, and pleasantness. With discipline, one can be liberated from the lower realms, obtain a body in the higher realms, and also be the supreme of ornaments. With patience, one can have a beautiful form and pacify all enemies. Accomplishing virtue is the supreme of all austerities. With diligence, one will accomplish all great matters of this life and the next. With meditation, one will accomplish clairvoyance and other superior qualities. With wisdom, one will uproot all afflictions and ignorance from their foundation, and even accomplish omniscience. Furthermore, it is said in the Sutras: mindfulness is the basis of all qualities, being content with little and knowing satisfaction is considered wealth. Faith, discipline, learning, giving, shame, modesty, and wisdom, these seven are the supreme treasures of the noble ones. Whoever possesses these is said to possess wealth. Without these, one is actually poor.
