In the lower realms, there are no four seasons like spring and summer, and there is no distinction between day and night, parents and servants. When gods of the desire realm are born by transformation, they suddenly appear in the laps and on the shoulders of goddesses. Gods of the form realm are born with clothes, while the formless realm has none of these distinctions. In places where sounds are unpleasant and in the abodes of the gods, they do not experience the many differences of contaminated bliss. These gods also experience differences in the magnitude of their enjoyment due to the magnitude of their virtuous deeds. However, they also have suffering like this: the Four Great Kings and the Thirty-three Gods fight with the Asuras, and their bodies' vital points are cut and crushed, causing much suffering. Although there is no such suffering in the Immaterial Realms, seeing the signs of death causes immeasurable suffering. The gods of the form and formless realms do not have the kinds of suffering that are known in the world, and although they can abide in the bliss of meditative absorption for a long time, they are bound by the suffering of conditioned existence. Like a bird flying in the sky, they will eventually fall to lower realms. There is also the suffering of fighting and arguing among the Asuras, and the suffering of birth, old age, sickness, and death for humans. In this way, all six realms of beings are tormented by any of the three sufferings: the suffering of conditioned existence, the suffering of change, and the suffering of suffering. One should contemplate this. Moreover, the five aggregates of grasping, because they are not autonomous, impermanent, and decaying, are called pervasive suffering of conditioned existence. The experience of extreme heat turning to coolness, and the experience of pleasure such as the sensation of food, are considered the suffering of change. The torment of feeling suffering that arises from causes such as illness is called the suffering of suffering. In short, no matter where one is born in the three realms of samsara, one cannot escape the nature of the truth of suffering. Therefore, in order to attain liberation, one should generate the thought of renunciation. The primary cause of suffering is affliction, and from affliction arise actions and so on. Therefore, one should strive to abandon afflictions such as desire, hatred, ignorance, pride, jealousy, and miserliness with antidotes as much as possible. To know the types of the three sufferings as they are, is to know the truth of suffering. Understand the arising and abiding of the aggregates of afflictions.

Knowing the truth of the origin of suffering itself, if one knows the method of liberation from suffering, then one knows the truth of the path. Through the path, one knows that suffering is stopped and has ceased, which is knowing the truth of cessation. Afflictions are the cause, suffering is the result; the path is the cause, cessation is the result. Furthermore, ignorance, action, consciousness, name and form, the six sense sources, contact, feeling, craving, grasping, existence, birth, and old age and death—these twelve links, like a wheel, cause sentient beings in samsara to revolve without interruption. That is, by the power of ignorance, karma is accumulated, and its imprints are imprinted on consciousness. After being well-nourished by craving and grasping, when consciousness connects to the next life, name and form, the six sense sources, contact, and feeling, the sequence of dependent origination of birth and old age and death is accomplished. Ignorance and action are the cause of projecting, and in the time of the result, from consciousness and name and form onwards, the five up to feeling are the result of being projected. How are they projected? In the time of the cause, on consciousness, they are projected in the manner of imprinting imprints by karma. Craving, grasping, and existence are the cause of accomplishment, and birth and old age and death are the result of accomplishment. How are they accomplished? They are accomplished in the manner of making those imprints powerful. Ignorance, craving, and grasping are the three afflictions. From action and existence, consciousness, name and form, the six sense sources, contact, feeling, birth, and old age and death are the seven truths of suffering. From the three afflictions, two karmas arise, and from them, seven sufferings arise. From the seven sufferings, afflictions and so on arise again, like a wheel of fire. In twelve ways, the wheel of existence is turned. The root of these is ignorance. By the three trainings, and especially by the wisdom that realizes the selflessness of the nature of all phenomena, one should strive in the manner of abandoning ignorance. If, for the sake of sentient beings, one desires the state of Buddhahood, one should generate the supreme mind of enlightenment. The only gateway to enter the Great Vehicle is nothing other than the mind of enlightenment. Whoever has not generated this mind, even if they have hundreds of other qualities, will never become a Bodhisattva. Whoever has generated this, even if they have no other qualities, becomes a child of the Buddhas, a protector of all, including the gods. To this
