Holding the vajra that possesses completeness, and holding the bell that possesses attachment with the thought of proclaiming the self-sound of emptiness, is the samaya of the bell; contemplating oneself as the deity, and properly engaging in the karma and wisdom mudras, thereby offering to the deity is the samaya of the mudra. Offering to the guru who shows the path of mantra to oneself is the samaya of the teacher, and serving them as before is: serving Akshobhya as before, the giving of wealth, the giving of dharma, the giving of loving-kindness, the giving of fearlessness and refuge is Ratnasambhava's, studying the outer conduct, secret yoga, and highest yoga, the scriptures and realizations of the three vehicles of Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Bodhisattvas as before is Amitabha's, studying the outer, inner, secret, and suchness offerings is the way to study the vows of the Amoghasiddhi family. Those who have not been liberated, etc., are: I shall liberate Brahma and Indra, etc., who have not been liberated from the afflictive obscurations, I shall liberate the Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Arhats who have not been freed from the cognitive obscurations, and I shall relieve the suffering of sentient beings who are tormented by suffering and whose breath has not yet ceased, and I shall establish all sentient beings in the realm of non-abiding nirvana. The uncommon vows mentioned here are: although not for the sake of newly generating vows that did not exist before and restoring vows that have been lost, there is a need for the vows that have already arisen to remain and increase. Even if vows are not taken here, the ritual will not be deficient or excessive. Then one should meditate on the four immeasurables, the first three are as usual, and the fourth, equanimity, is: vowing to establish all sentient beings on the equality of the eight worldly dharmas of gain and loss, happiness and unhappiness, pleasant and unpleasant, praise and blame, and on the equanimity that pacifies the conceptual thoughts that cling to the distorted clinging to the phenomena of grasper and grasped. Although there are different names for the way the eight dharmas are spoken, the meaning is the same. The assembly field is: finally returning to its own place, and contemplating it as not appearing there, and gathering it into oneself, and contemplating it as emptiness, etc.

Therefore, here it follows the latter method. Although the term "non-objectification" is used when meditating on emptiness, the commentary 'Wish-Fulfilling Jewel' explains that there is a meditation method called "non-objectification" which is merely making things invisible. Wise scholars have also spoken of it in this way. The symbolism from the field of merit until here will be explained and remembered in the chapter section. Secondly, in accordance with manifesting the clear light of death and in accordance with the Dharma, there are two ways to meditate on the emptiness of the ground of wisdom: explaining the basis to be purified, and accordingly, the method of meditating on emptiness. Firstly, the people of Jambudvipa, born from the womb and possessing the six elements, have a way of manifesting the clear light of death. At the time of death, when earth first dissolves into water, the outer sign is the feeling of the body sinking, and the inner sign is the appearance of a mirage-like vision. When water dissolves into fire, the outer sign is the drying of the lips and tongue, and the formation of tartar on the teeth, and the inner sign is the appearance of a smoke-like vision. When fire dissolves into wind, the outer sign is the gathering of the body's heat from the extremities, and the inner sign is the appearance of a sky-like vision with sparks. When wind begins to dissolve into consciousness, the outer sign is the cessation of the external breath, and the inner sign is the appearance of a burning butter lamp-like vision. When the wind of conceptualization and delusion dissolves into appearance, the appearance manifests in its own time, appearing as a white, clear vision like a clear sky covered by moonlight. When it dissolves into increase, there is an appearance like being covered by sunlight. When it dissolves into near attainment, there is an appearance like being covered by the thick darkness of dusk. When near attainment dissolves into clear light, the clear light is manifested through the appearance of an empty, clear sky at dawn, free from the three activating conditions. The second part has two aspects: the actual method of meditating on emptiness through explaining the meaning of the two mantras, and the method of combining the basis to be purified with the Dharma. Firstly, the meaning of the first of the two mantras is: The three letters of Om (Tibetan: ༀ་, Devanagari: ओम्, Romanized Sanskrit: om, literal meaning: Om), A (Tibetan: ཨ་, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, literal meaning: A), U (Tibetan: ཨུ་, Devanagari: उ, Romanized Sanskrit: u, literal meaning: U), and Ma (Tibetan: མ་, Devanagari: म, Romanized Sanskrit: ma, literal meaning: Ma) symbolize the three vajras of body, speech, and mind. The Om (Tibetan: ༀ་, Devanagari: ओम्, Romanized Sanskrit: om, literal meaning: Om) which is the unification of these three, symbolizes the indivisibility of the three vajras. If one recites this symbolic meaning in the mouth through remembrance, one accumulates much merit, therefore it is called the mantra of holding the jewel.
