It is accomplished through the power of diligence. The distinction of qualities lies in being adorned with excellent marks and signs, having attained the treasury of space, having received empowerment from the Buddha, and attaining enlightenment in this very life. The distinction of examples is illustrated by twelve similes such as illusion, moon in water, and mirage. The distinction of names lies in transforming into names such as illusory body, self-blessing, and network of illusion. The distinction of etymology is illustrated by twelve similes such as illusion, and it is so called because it has a body similar to the initial illusion. The distinction of duration lies in the fact that this third-stage illusory body remains until the fourth-stage meaning-luminosity arises, and once it arises, it becomes pure like a rainbow dissolving. Furthermore, if one understands the distinctions of the illusory body well, even mere faith will lead to the direct realization of emptiness, and great benefits similar to the complete subtle and gross stages of generation will arise. Thus, as stated in Yeshe Dorje's Kunley Dutsé Root Commentary and the Compendium of Practice, Je Tsongkhapa himself also agrees with the literal meaning. There are different views regarding the place where the illusory body initially arises. Some scholars believe that there are both outer and inner risings of the dhūtī (藏文:དྷཱུ་ཏཱི,梵文天城体:धूती,梵文罗马拟音:dhūtī,汉语:脉) of the heart, while others believe that there is only one of the two. Secondly, the way to accomplish the body of the Union of Learning is as follows: As stated in the prayer, "May the beautiful illusory body, again and again, enter into luminosity, and from constantly entering, may the co-emergent arise, and finally, having directly realized the glorious Vajradhara, may I realize the Union of Learning." Thus, the third-stage illusory body, through methods such as subsequent meditative concentration, is repeatedly accustomed to entering luminosity, and finally, having been purified by luminosity, the wisdom of directly realizing emptiness with co-emergent bliss, realizing the fourth-stage meaning-luminosity, when arising in reverse order from that luminosity, it is accomplished. Although the fourth-stage meaning-luminosity is the unsurpassable path of seeing, it can directly abandon both conceptualized clinging to reality and the seeds of co-emergence simultaneously, because at this time, clinging to reality is considered an affliction, and luminosity can abandon afflictions.

Because it possesses the complete function of actually abandoning afflictive obscurations, therefore, abandoning afflictive obscurations, attaining the Union of Learning, attaining the unsurpassed path, and becoming an Arhat are simultaneous. At that time, the newly attained Union is the Abandonment Union, because it is the new attainment of the pure illusory body that is assembled together with the abandonment of newly abandoning afflictive obscurations. The Realization Union is manifested after that, because when the Union practitioner again manifests the meaning of the luminosity of realizing emptiness, then that main part of the Union, which is known as the Realization Union, is attained. As it is said in the Five Stages: "Having known the distinctions of the conventional and the ultimate, wherever they are truly mixed, that is explained as Union." Therefore, at that time, both the Abandonment and Realization Unions are complete, but when arising from that equipoise, one becomes an Abandonment Union practitioner, but not a Realization Union practitioner. Because at the time of subsequent attainment, one must make the conventional the object, therefore, it is not a direct realization of the ultimate truth, because there are no beings who directly realize the two truths simultaneously. In general, whether pure or impure, both illusory bodies must arise from luminosity, no matter where they arise. Because the impure illusory body arises from the ultimate luminosity of the example luminosity of the second stage, and the pure illusory body arises from the meaning luminosity of the fourth stage. Moreover, these two luminosities arise without being interrupted by other phenomena, but in the manner of a fish leaping from water. As it is said in the Five Stages: "Just as from a clear river, fish and others quickly leap up, likewise, it is said that the net of illusion arises from all emptiness and clarity." And as it is said in the Bell Commentary: "By any momentary union, one's self transforms into Vajra Dakini, like a falsely born sentient being." And as it is said in the Guhyasamaja Later Tantra: "The wisdom that perfects in an instant, that is said to be Samadhi." Therefore, the meaning of "by any momentary union" and "in an instant" is that luminosity arises as an illusory body without being interrupted by other phenomena. Thus, Your Holiness yourself
