That is why. At that time, one meditates in a way that profound clarity and clear appearance are inseparable. Focusing on the deity and remembering the appearance as being without inherent existence, the yoga of inseparable profound clarity and clear appearance, which cultivates the union of these two, is the main practice at this time. Then, there is a way to remember purity. The purity of the deity has already been explained in the previous sections on the outer mandala and the body mandala. There is also a way to remember the purity of the ornaments. If the six mudras and skull cups, etc., that arise from the collection of mantras and those ornaments are present, they are actually adorned; if they are not, one thinks of being adorned with those ornaments. The meaning of purity is to meditate that those ornaments arise from those mantras. Then, there is also the meaning of "the khatvanga is the body of the deity," etc. The khatvanga is the body of Heruka, the essence of great bliss; the damaru is the yogini, proclaiming the sound of the wisdom of emptiness; Heruka is the nature of the pure illusory body expressed by the sound of day; and the sow is to be meditated upon as the nature of the wisdom of ultimate clear light, indicated by the sound of night. Such a Heruka arises from abandoning samsara together with its habitual tendencies, and is therefore called "the hero who has transcended suffering." Moreover, he is also the sixth consciousness Vajradhara, emanated by the practitioner himself from the proximate cause of his own winds and mind. Therefore, it is said, "The sixth is the emanation of mind." Vajravarahi is to be thought of as manifesting as the form of a goddess emanated from the spontaneously pure dharmadhatu, which is the meaning of "purity is the emanation of dharma, manifested as the form of Varahi." The remaining meaning should be remembered as explained above. The practices from remembering the purity of the outer mandala up to this point encompass all the key points of the path of the three wisdoms of the Paramita Vehicle. That is, by meditating on the thirty-seven dharmas of the foundation—the five aggregates, the twelve sources, and the eighteen elements—which are included in the wisdom of great bliss that realizes the absence of inherent existence, as the thirty-seven deities, one encompasses the key points of the path of the foundation of knowledge. And by placing that wisdom on the ten bhumis, the place of the body and the nearby place
