are branches. The pleasantness of great bliss from realizing emptiness, which is brought about by investigation and analysis, is the branch of joy. The bliss of great purification that corresponds to it is the branch of bliss. The three emptinesses associated with these two, joy and bliss, and the clear light of all emptiness, are the branch of one-pointedness of mind. As it says in the Later Tantra: The three secrets arise as investigation; its enjoyment is analysis. The touch of joy is the third; the fourth is gathered by bliss. When knowing and what is to be known arise and cease, know your own mind as the fifth. The nature of all Buddhas is peaceful; all abide in the sky. Therefore, the meaning of the arising and ceasing of knowing and what is to be known is that knowing is the object-possessors such as eye consciousness, and what is to be known are the objects such as form. Their cessation means blocking the appearance of grasping and being grasped as distant, and meditating on the clear light of emptiness. Sixth, how to practice is explained in three parts: how the winds gather by meditating on the subtle lower gate; how melting bliss arises; and how to maintain the coemergent bliss after it has arisen. First, that yogi who meditates on the completion stage should meditate with the four essentials of body, time, place, and wind. The essential of the body is to have the seven characteristics of Vairochana. The time is generally continuous, but especially the time when awareness is clear at dawn, and the time of the fire wind in the afternoon. The wind is to make arising and entering balanced. The place is generally inside the central channel, and in this case, it is inside the jewel at the lower end of the central channel, focusing on the subtle bindu as the object of focus, meditating as if the mind is entering. As it says in the third chapter of the Root Tantra: The great jewel of five colors, the size of a mustard seed, the yogi should always meditate diligently on the tip of the nose. And in the sixth chapter: Like the color of a blue lotus, with five special tips, the size of a barley grain, contemplate diligently on the tip of the nose. These two have been taught. Its meaning is as it says in the aspiration prayer of the Later Union: By stabilizing the mind on the subtle jewel bindu, the stream of nectar like the sun melting the moon, leading in order of forward and reverse flow, may the four joys arise with upward descent and downward stability.

Therefore, by meditating in this way, through the key point of the union of wind and mind, wherever the mind is held, the wind also gradually gathers, and thus the three processes of wind entering the central channel, abiding, and dissolving occur. Based on this, clear light will also arise. There is a way in which its signs arise: the sign of wind entering is that it flows equally and with the same force from both nostrils. When it abides, the flow from the nostrils ceases. When it dissolves, as the earth element dissolves, there is an appearance like a mirage; as the water element dissolves, there is an appearance like smoke; as the fire element dissolves, there is an appearance like fireflies; as the wind element dissolves, there is an appearance like a butter lamp. As stated in the Oral Instructions: "Then the great secret bindu, extremely subtle like the previous four, hold your own mind slowly, slowly, it transforms into a state of nothingness. This also, through familiarity with holding, reverses the order. The appearance like a mirage, should always be known as the first." And so on. Also, as stated in the Subsequent Tantra: "The realms of signs are fivefold, as spoken by Vajra Bodhi, similar to a mirage is the first, like smoke is the second, like the appearance of space is the third, blazing like a butter lamp is the fourth, like a cloudless sky, it always appears as the fifth." Therefore, it is said. Secondly, in general, to ignite inner heat and melt bodhicitta from the crown of the head does not require the practice of the path, because it can occur even without practicing the path. The necessity of igniting inner heat and melting bodhicitta after practicing the path is not merely for the sake of generating bliss, but for the sake of generating co-emergent great bliss. To fully generate it, it is necessary for the bodhicitta to reach below the navel, and especially to be able to hold it temporarily at the tip of the jewel. Without it, co-emergent bliss with complete characteristics will not arise. Because of the dissolution of the wind, the bodhicitta melts and does not return until co-emergent bliss has arisen, because the movement of the wind that propels it has subsided, and therefore it does not arise at that time. When the bodhicitta reaches from the crown of the head to the throat, then to the heart, then to the navel, then to the secret place, joy, supreme joy, special joy, and co-emergent joy arise in sequence, which is the forward order. From that, the four joys of the reverse order also arise. As stated in the Vajra Garland: Afterwards, the forward order is explained.
