At that time, on the rock face called "Directional Elephant Cave," he wrote with stone powder: "Being a valid cognition, wishing to benefit beings, I prostrate to the Teacher, the Sugata, the Protector. In order to accomplish valid cognition, from all my own treatises, I gather the various scattered ones here into one." Just by writing this praise and vow to explain, the earth shook, light shone, and a great sound arose. The non-Buddhist teachers became stiff like wooden posts, and many extraordinary signs appeared. At that time, there was a non-Buddhist teacher named Krishna Pandita nearby, who, seeing with his subtle clairvoyance, knew it was due to his power. Out of jealousy, he went to the place where the Teacher was walking for alms and erased it twice. The Teacher wrote it a third time and at the end wrote: "Who is it that erases the verses I have written? If it is for fun and jest, do not erase it, because there is a great purpose. If it is out of jealousy, it cannot be erased because it is in the mind. If you can endure debate, manifest your body, and I will debate." Again, the signs appeared as before, and when he returned, he saw the words "I will debate" and sat down. The Teacher returned from alms, and upon meeting, he established the victory of the Buddhist teachings. Through debate, two or three times, he defeated the non-Buddhists. He said, "Now enter the Buddhist teachings." He became angry and spat fire from his mouth, burning all the Teacher's belongings. The Teacher was almost burned and became sad, thinking, "Originally, I thought to do the benefit of all sentient beings, but I cannot even do the benefit of this one non-Buddhist. I will realize my own peace and happiness." Thinking this, he threw the stone powder into the sky, thinking as it was about to fall to the ground whether to abandon the mind of enlightenment. Before the stone powder fell to the ground, Manjushri himself appeared and said, "Son, do not do it, do not do it. From encountering inferior vehicles, bad intelligence arises. Know that this treatise of yours cannot be harmed by the non-Buddhist groups. Until you attain the ground, I will become your spiritual friend. In future times, this will become one eye of all the treatises." Thus he took him under his care. Some explain it this way. In the commentary on the Compendium on Valid Cognition by Choskyi Chok, the Teacher

While dwelling in a secluded elephant mountain cave in a certain region, a monk diligently engaged in meditation. After some time, he became disillusioned with samsara and, turning away from benefiting sentient beings, desired to liberate himself alone. At that moment, the noble Manjushri appeared and said, "Son, you are becoming cowardly and controlled by others, like evil people. Although you have the ability to benefit all sentient beings, why do you abandon it?" He replied, "Bhagavan, samsara is filled with unbearable suffering, and I cannot endure it. My mind also delights in unholy people, behaving frivolously. Even if you see me, you do not bless me, so what can I do?" Manjushri replied, "Son, until you attain the ground, I myself am your spiritual friend." Having said this, he disappeared. It is said that in the commentary of Kashmiri Jnana Shri, it says, "Until you attain Buddhahood." That master composed the Compendium of Valid Cognition with its autocommentary, subdued all the heretics, and propagated the teachings. His disciple, Master Ishvarasena, was skilled in the five sciences and also composed a commentary on the Compendium. His disciple Dharmakirti was born in the south of India in a Brahmin family called Jeturvarman. He was well-versed in grammar from a young age. He took the vows of a heretical Brahmin from his uncle, the heretical teacher Kumarila. His uncle spoke ill of him and expelled him. The master thought, 'I must become someone who defeats all the heretics.' So he became a monk and studied the Buddhist teachings diligently. In particular, he vowed to listen to the Compendium of Valid Cognition three times from Master Ishvarasena and listened carefully. The first time, he understood as Master Ishvarasena intended. The second time, he understood as Dignaga intended, realizing that Ishvarasena's intention was wrong. When he requested the third teaching, Ishvarasena said, "Dignaga had no student like me, and I have not had a student like you. Usually, it is taught only once, but I have already taught it twice. I alone will not
