Since all beings do not see, nor do they reside on a couch, thus it was also prophesied. So it is said. Then what is the reason for your crying? O deity! I, having met this supreme Dharma-treasury person, will die without accomplishing the meaning. Not having attained peace, seeing my own faults, sorrow arises in my heart, and I weep. So it is said. Then he went to his own abode. Then, having grown up, together with ten thousand Shakya youths, he went to the monastery of the teacher of letters, the friend of all virtuous ones. O teacher, out of the sixty-four kinds of Brahma's letters, etc., which should I learn? The teacher was amazed, 'The purity of beings is truly wonderful! Even though he has studied all the treatises, he has come to the monastery of letters in order to follow the world. Whatever the names of the letters, I have not known, even though he is accomplished in this, he has come to the monastery to learn letters.' So he said. Then the youth went to the forest, and in the shade of the Jambudvipa tree, he remained in meditative equipoise from the first dhyana to the fourth, so that five heretical hermits with magical powers could not go into the sky. They prostrated and circumambulated. At that time, even though the shadows of other trees moved, his did not move, and his father was amazed, 'When the Thubpa was born, and when the radiant one meditated, the guide, in this way twice, O protector! I prostrate at your feet.' So he prostrated. Then the Shakya elders said to the king, 'O deity! The diviners prophesied that if this youth takes a wife, he will become a Chakravartin, so a queen should be taken.' The king said, 'Look for a daughter who is suitable for the youth.' Then about five hundred Shakyas said, 'Our daughter is suitable.' The king said, 'Ask the youth himself.' So they asked the youth, and he said he would answer in seven days, thinking, 'I have infinitely known the faults of desire, the root of strife, hatred, sorrow, and suffering, like terrifying poisonous leaves, like fire and the edge of a sword. I do not desire the qualities of desire, I do not desire women and beauties, I will pacify my mind with the bliss of meditation and samadhi, I will dwell in the silent forest.' Again, having considered, skillful

I am compassionate! The lotus flourishes in mud and thickets, and the king receives offerings among the people. When a Bodhisattva obtains excellent retinue, then the affairs of sentient beings are subdued like drops of blood, immortal. All the wise Bodhisattvas who have appeared in the past have shown consorts, princes, and maids, yet they are not tainted by desire, and the bliss of meditation has not diminished. I too shall emulate their virtues. Thinking thus, he wrote the virtues of many women on paper, praying that he might attain such virtues. Then, the king said to the attendant: Go, bring the woman who possesses these virtues. The daughters of royal families and Brahmins, as well as those of lower castes, whoever possesses these virtues, bring her here. My son does not value lineage, ancestry, or peculiarities, but he delights in virtues, truth, and Dharma. Thus he spoke. Then, that Brahmin went all over the country and saw Sakya, the daughter of the one with a club in his hand, Sātsoma, and gave her the letter. She smiled and said: Brahmin, I am fully endowed with these virtues, and one with these qualities is worthy of my family. If the young man wishes to marry me, please do not delay. Even among a hundred people, I can get along with ordinary people. Thus she spoke. The attendant reported this to the king, who said: This woman is too deceitful, do not trust her. In seven days, let all the women come to the hall, and the young man will bestow pleasing gifts. Thus he spoke. After seven days, the young man went to the hall, and as the women arrived, he gave them gifts, and they quickly left because they could not bear the splendor. Then, when Sātsoma arrived, the gifts were exhausted, and she smiled slightly and asked: What wrong have I done that you punish me? The young man said: It is not punishment, but because you are late. Then he gave her a ring worth a hundred thousand gold coins. After she left, the guards reported to the king: The young man has taken a liking to Sātsoma and has spoken a few words with her. Thus they reported. Then, the king sent a messenger to Sakya, the one with a club in his hand, saying: Please give your daughter to the young man.
