Then, when the son of Brij served and taught the Dharma, the son of Brij observed the heart of the Khenpo, (saying:) "Gautama, do not be negligent, relying on the dense shade of the trees can lead to the cessation of sorrow. Please keep it in mind and meditate, and soon you will attain the place of peace." Thus, from the teachings of the son of the renunciate, in the first part of the day and night, the obscurations of the mind are purified by walking and sitting meditation. At noon, after washing his feet outside the monastery, he entered and lay down on his right side. He became an Arhat simply without using a pillow, and then returned to the cave of Nyagrodha. Then, Kashyapa, for the benefit of the forgetful monks of later times, discussed in the morning in verse form and in the afternoon in prose form. This was also discussed earlier during the compilation of the Sutras. Kashyapa asked Ananda if he was pleased. Through the ritual of two requests, he was appointed to compile the Sutras. Five hundred Arhats spread the Sanghati robe on the lion throne, and Ananda sat on it, thinking, "I will recite all the Sutras I have memorized." The gods, knowing this, listened respectfully. Then, Kashyapa requested, "The Teacher wishes to benefit the world, may the venerable one recite the excellent Dharma spoken by the Buddha." Then, Ananda, remembering the qualities of the Teacher, faced the Bodhi tree, joined his palms, and filled (the area) with his voice, (saying:) "Thus have I heard, at one time, the Bhagavan was dwelling in the Deer Park at Varanasi, where the sages spoke." As soon as he said this, the gods and humans felt sorrow, (saying:) "Alas, in these worlds, there is no difference in impermanence. The ocean of qualities of that precious treasure has also dried up. What I heard before, the Dharma distinguishes liberation. Having heard it like this, this is what is proclaimed today." Thus he spoke. Then, the Bhagavan said to the five monks, "Monks, this Dharma that has not been heard before is the noble truth of suffering," and so on, he taught the Sutras. Then, Purna said to Kashyapa, "I have directly heard this category of Dharma, and the ocean of my blood and phlegm...
