From then on, when he heard that the Protector had passed away, he became completely pacified by the power of merit. These are his alms bowl and Dharma robes, considering these, please forgive the Sangha. Then, Mahakashyapa said: Bhikshus, listen! Since he passed away in the manner of a noble one, others should not become completely pacified in the same way. Therefore, as long as there are things that need to be done, it should be discussed by a gathering of powerful ones. Just as the mind of Shirshaka, who was the basis of meritorious deeds, the most excellent of cowherds. You should not think like that, but for the sake of the benefit of beings, gather together and engage in wisdom. Having said this, he made a rule and said: If the Dharma is taught here, many bhikshus will come and cause distraction, so let's go to Magadha. They said: Good, and then turned back the other student monks, and appointed Ananda as the water attendant. Ananda and the Sangha went wandering. Mahakashyapa went straight and arrived at Rajagriha. Ajatashatru saw him and remembered the Teacher. He fell from the elephant, and was caught by the power of Kashyapa, and later made a rule not to do that. He said: I would like to discuss the Dharma here, in this heavenly place. He said: Good, I will prepare all the utensils. They gathered in the cave of the Nyagrodha tree, and the king prepared the bedding and utensils, and promised to spend the rainy season there. Mahakashyapa constantly watched Ananda's mind, without ceasing. In this assembly, among those praised by the Tathagata, there are monks with desire, monks with hatred, monks with delusion, monks with craving, monks who accept, and monks who study. Ananda, having observed with clairvoyance, said: Please know, the Sangha of monks is devoid of essence, free from defilements, pure, clean, possessing essence, unsurpassed, a field of merit, a place of giving in the world, but Ananda is still the same as before. Then, Kashyapa knew that he should be tamed with rebuke, and he said to him: We are a superior gathering, and will not discuss the Dharma with you, you go away! He was shaken as if struck at a vital point. Mahakashyapa said: Alright. I have damaged the discipline, view, conduct, and livelihood.
