Karmaṇi. Lodrö Gyatso. These are the words that subdue the demons, the words that eliminate afflictions. The speaker of the Dharma should recite these words well, sit on the Dharma throne, and spread loving-kindness, which is the manifestation of enlightenment, to all those around him. He should generate the thought that it is beneficial to himself, the thought that the Dharma is medicine, the thought that the listener is a patient, the thought that the Tathagata is a holy being, and the thought that the Dharma will abide for a long time. If he prefaces his Dharma talk with these mantras, then within a hundred yojanas, the demons and the gods of the demonic retinue will not return due to the act of averting their eyes. Even if they come, they will not be able to create obstacles. Thus it is said. The speaker of the Dharma should be clean, pure in conduct, well-washed, and well-dressed. Thus it is said. Secondly, the main part is possessing the six perfections, which are giving the meaning of the words that one has realized, restraining the misdeeds of the three doors, enduring harm such as heat and cold, taking pleasure in explaining, focusing one's mind on it, and analyzing and explaining the connection between the words and their meaning. These are the six. Or, as the teacher Senge Zangpo said: When giving alms and so forth, abandoning the thoughts of the Shravakas and so forth, enduring all beings speaking unpleasant words and so forth, generating aspiration, focusing one's mind without mixing with other vehicles, and dedicating all merit to the unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment, doing so with the armor of non-objectification. Thus it is said. Thirdly, the conclusion is: requesting forgiveness for faults, dedicating the merit to enlightenment, and sealing with the seal of emptiness. Third, the differences in how students listen. Third, there are three: the person who listens, the method of listening based on what, and the manner of how to listen. First, there are three types of listeners: superior, middling, and inferior. First, in the analysis, there are abandoning the faults of the listener and showing the characteristics of the listener to be accomplished. First, there are abandoning thirteen faults, six faults, and three faults. The first is, in the Commentary on Valid Cognition, with sixteen remedies for the thirteen faults.
