Oh! To counteract the fault of incomplete speech, one should speak diligently without contempt. To counteract the fault of interrupted speech, there are three methods: speaking in order, that is, starting from past actions to be done, such as giving, etc., and speaking from true and complete words, that is, teaching. Starting from discussing the various ways of the Sutra Pitaka, to the fierce words of debate, and then speaking conciliatory words. Speaking in accordance, that is, starting from answering questions, prophecies, etc., and prophesying in the same way to all of them. To counteract the fault of speech not being understood, there are three methods: making those with faith happy, satisfying those who were previously present and resentful, and pleasing those who are in between and doubtful. To counteract the fault of speech not becoming an offering, there are two methods: for those who engage in sinful actions, one should not generate joy, therefore not generating joy; if one degrades, they will feel heartache, therefore not degrading. To counteract the fault of speaking without reason, one needs logic, that is, not contradicting प्रमाण (pramana, valid cognition). To counteract the fault of speaking profound things to inferior faculties who are not the object of profound practice, one needs connection, that is, the connection between before and after. To counteract the fault of speaking while distracted, one needs non-mixture, that is, avoiding interjecting other topics. To counteract the fault of speaking meaningless things, one needs to be in accordance with Dharma, that is, in accordance with virtue. To counteract the fault of speaking inappropriately, one needs to observe the retinue as it is, that is, being appropriate to the trainable beings. To counteract the fault of speaking with a mind of affliction, one needs the remaining five antidotes. There are three kinds of afflicted minds: the thought of believing oneself to be good, the thought of wanting to be respected out of faith, and the thought of jealousy. The first antidote has three aspects: loving-kindness, beneficial intention, and compassion. Do these three refer to the three wishes of wanting the listener to be happy, without affliction, and without suffering? Or, for those inclined towards virtue and non-virtue, and ordinary people, do loving-kindness, etc., correspond in order? Or, it is counteracted by the thought of wanting to attain Nirvana, understand its path, and comprehend the meaning of what is said. The second antidote is not relying on gain, respect, and praise.

That is to say, they have abandoned desires. As the third antidote, one should not praise oneself, nor should one slander others, this is to abandon jealousy and wanting to particularly believe in oneself. These twenty points, according to the order of five groups, about how, for what purpose, what kind of, in what way to speak, as well as the combination of speech, the action of speech, the merits of speech, and the merits of the speaker, should all be shown, and without faults, that is being skilled in explaining. The third is, being respected by all through the three doors of body, speech, and mind, therefore one should be skilled in one's own conduct; being skilled in the conduct of those to be tamed, that is, by knowing their faculties, realms, and latent tendencies, teaching the Dharma that is in accordance with them, so that it becomes meaningful. In the Earth Store Ten Wheels Sutra, it says: "Children with weak faculties and laziness, not diligent in the Two Vehicles, will not possess the Great Vehicle Wheel. That is not a vessel for the vast Great Vehicle." Or, similarly, the Hearer Vehicle, which is not a vessel, will become confused after hearing the explanation of the Great Vehicle, clinging to nihilistic views and falling into evil destinies, therefore one should examine the faculties and teach the Dharma. It also says: "Those who have become vessels of the vast Dharma should not be applied to inferior Dharma." And "For the inferior, profound and vast..." Therefore, one must be skilled in the conduct or characteristics of the vessel. The second point is, most importantly, to have the compassion of wanting to place all sentient beings in great enlightenment. If there is no such compassion, then there must be the compassion of fully understanding the meaning of what is being taught, and teaching for the benefit of others, regardless of material interests. Through this compassion, one's own explanation can become the path. In the Ornament of the Sutras, it says: "Stable ones, for life and enjoyment, having obtained with great effort and being without essence, with great joy, giving all to sentient beings who suffer, this is vast and constant giving. Benefiting beings in various ways, difficult to obtain even with great effort, even if completely given away, it will not be exhausted but will increase, let alone just looking once?" If it is not like this, one will commit the fault of selling the Dharma. In the Manjushri Emanation Sutra, it says that if the speaker does not generate great compassion for the listeners, that is the work of demons. Even if one has heard a lot, because of fear that others will know about the Dharma
