Time passes by through appearances; whichever of the six realms one is born into, until one finds a place to settle, the teachings behind are self-liberated like illusions. In searching, one wanders aimlessly. This is an example of the Becoming Bardo (Srid pa bar do). Furthermore, what is the example for all the Bardos like? For example, it is like a person going for some purpose; their own land has passed, and the path in between until they arrive at the other land is like walking on a road. In the Tantra of the Clear Light Sun: The example shown for the similar Bardo is: For example, a person seeking a purpose, it's like spending the night before arriving at the place of purpose. This is the example of the six Bardos. Samaya! Eighth, showing the six signs of the six Bardos: The sign of the Birth Place Bardo is: This illusory body now, the substantial body of flesh and blood, which can be touched and has obstruction, this is it. Moreover, as a sign of having obstruction: the body has a shadow. Images appear clearly in water and mirrors. This is the sign of the Birth Place Bardo, taking a body of flesh and blood. Second, the sign of the Dream Bardo is: Unpredictable, all sorts of things appear. Third, the sign of the Meditation Bardo is: Experiences appear in various ways. Fourth, the sign of the Death Bardo is: The sequence of signs of death. The sign of recognition is: Fainting caused by pressing the reversed pulse point. Fifth, the sign of the Dharmata Bardo is: The appearance of the three, sound, light, and rays. Now, the signs of recognition are: First, the sign of sound is: When the ear canal is pressed with a finger, a buzzing sound comes from deep within; this is the sign of the Dharmata Bardo's own sound of Dharmata, like the roar of a thousand dragons. Second, the sign of light is: When the eye is pressed with a finger, a halo of five-colored rainbows appears; this is the sign of the peaceful and wrathful deities appearing in the Dharmata Bardo. Third, the sign of rays is: When the eye is pressed for a long time with the hand, light, rays, bindus, lines, and something like a brocade tent, flickering, shimmering, moving, pulsating, filling the entire expanse of the sky, will appear vividly. This is the sign of rays. Sixth, the sign of the Becoming Bardo is: Falling into a deep sleep, and the coming of chaotic dreams, that is also it; fainting caused by pressing the reversed pulse point, and dream-like appearances, aimlessly.

Now, this is what will be discussed. The signs of wandering in the bardo are: being able to pass through all lands, stones, mountains, and rocks without obstruction; the body having no shadow; and the absence of the body's reflection in water. These are the signs that appear because one has separated from the flesh and blood body and is wandering in the mind-body of the existence bardo. These are the presentation of the signs of the six bardos. Samaya. Ninth, the presentation of the six ways of abiding of the six bardos: First, the way of abiding of the birth-place bardo is: from birth until death, the body is like a house, and the mind abides within it like a householder. Generally, the mind pervades the entire body, but particularly, awareness abides in the center of the heart. As a sign of this, the heart is more important than other organs. This clear and bright awareness of oneself pervades the body, and this is called the "lamp of the ground of abiding." In the Tantra of Transcendence of Thought it says: Self-knowing wisdom abides in the body, like oil in a sesame seed. The radiance and splendor of the body are pervaded by the moisture of wisdom. Thus it is said. In the Jeweled Array it says: Like oil that is naturally and spontaneously present in a sesame or mustard seed, in what appears as the body of a sentient being, the seed of the Thus-Gone One appears together with harmonious light. Thus it is said. That awareness particularly abides in the heart, the heart self-liberates. It abides within the eight-petaled heart treasure, like a lamp in a vase, and this is called the "lamp of heart-flesh." As it is also said in the Root Tantra of Sound Transcendence of Thought: Generally, within the heart-vein, the unmade, pure nature of reality abides. And as it is said in the Lion's Complete Power Tantra: For all sentient beings of the three realms, each abides in the center of their own heart. The heart-essence is stacked in three layers, and its nature is without obscuration. Thus it is said. And as it is said in the Tantra of Adornment of Recognizing Oneself: The meaning is, in the center of one's own body, great wisdom abides in the heart. Thus it is said. So, in what way does awareness abide in the center of the heart? It abides in the manner of the essence-body. It abides as a bindu of self-nature light. It abides as a lamp of compassion and wisdom. Abiding in the manner of the essence-body is: the heart abides in a peaceful manner. Its power abides as a wrathful body in the skull cavity of the brain. In the Lion's Complete Power Tantra it says: The secret assembly of the precious eight petals
