Recognize the Khenpo. Furthermore, recognize the faults of calm abiding and eliminate the faults of directness. Faultless calm abiding is: Like a candle not moved by the wind, the awareness is stable and unwavering wherever it is placed. Because it is not stained by sinking, dullness, or thickness, the awareness is clear and very clear. Wherever the awareness is directed, it is sharp, that is, the tip is sharp. Not being moved by sudden thoughts is uprightness. Such is when faultless meditation is born in the mindstream. Until that happens, it is important to calm the mind. Even if awareness is introduced without the qualities of calm abiding being born in the mindstream, it will only remain at the level of understanding and may lead to empty talk and laziness. Therefore, the root of all meditation depends on this. Before premature introduction and before good experiences of abiding arise, one should practice diligently. Beyond that is the practice of calm abiding with and without characteristics according to the instructions. Samaya. Thus, until the qualities of calm abiding are born in the mindstream, calm the mind through various methods. For example, if one wants to see one's face and the stars in water, one cannot see them in a place with waves, splashes, and rapid currents. Only when the water is naturally clear and still can one see them clearly. Similarly, here, when the mind is driven by the wind-horse of objects, and when thoughts are turbulent, even if awareness is introduced, it cannot be truly recognized because the mind is involuntarily driven by conceptual thoughts and cannot see its own nature. Also, in the practice of some lineages of instructions, it is difficult to recognize if one first introduces the view and then seeks meditation from the view. According to this lineage's method, first establish meditation and then introduce the view from meditation. There is a profound key that makes it impossible not to recognize. Therefore, first calm the mind, generate the qualities of calm abiding, and then point out awareness. That is, do the seven-point posture as before, and look at the space in front of the eyes, the space directly in front of the tip of the nose, without squinting or distorting, look sharply. The benefit of the way of looking is: In the heart center of all beings, there is a wisdom channel called "Kati She," which is a crystal tube. If it looks downward and the mouth is round, it will diminish wisdom and increase ignorance.

Therefore, for animals, the pulse points downwards and is round, so they are foolish and ignorant. For humans, the pulse extends horizontally and is slightly open, so humans are intelligent and their knowledge is clear. For accomplished beings and Bodhisattvas, the pulse is open and points upwards, therefore, inconceivable samadhi, and vast wisdom and clairvoyance arise, also due to the merit of the wisdom pulse being open. Therefore, when closing the eyes, the pulse closes and points downwards, so knowledge is covered by darkness and obscured by ignorance. By gazing sharply, the pulse opens upwards, so wisdom can distinguish between clarity and impurity, and manifests in clear and non-conceptual samadhi, and in pure visions, so the gaze is very important. This is also called the "Kati crystal tube pulse." In the Dzogchen Longsal Nyingma Gyud and the Gongpa Rangdrol, among others, everything else is hidden, and this special wisdom pulse is not discussed. This is different from the Uma, Roma, Kyangma, and the pulses of the five chakras, and is completely different. The shape is like a slightly open garlic sprout. There is no blood or serum inside, but it is clear and transparent. There is a special method to open it, hidden in the instructions of the lower gate, great bliss, desire for self-liberation. In the lower vehicles, there is not even the name of this pulse. Therefore, in this state of sharp gaze, in the realm of space, there is nothing to practice, just let the awareness remain in a non-distracted, sharp, clear, and naked state. When the abiding is stable, observe what the awareness of the abider is like. Then relax, release, and rest. Again, keep it sharp, and observe the awareness at that time, what the nature of the mind is like. Observe yourself, is it clear and sharp? Is it an emptiness of nothingness? Or is there something to identify? Observe repeatedly, and bring back an experience. This is the guidance to observe the nature. That is the first day. Then, the guidance to search for the mind is also according to the above-mentioned illusion wheel posture, let the mind remain sharply in the space in front. From today onwards, you must abide in your own reality.
