In order to generate meditation without distraction, one should train in this way. When ending a session, do not get up abruptly, but with mindfulness, without losing that state, slowly integrate it with behavior and carry it onto the path. All behavior should be as careful as a patient with a head injury, maintaining the state of meditation and being mindful. Do this for three days. Then, again, adjust the body posture etc. as before, and visualize: At the space between your eyebrows, a white, shimmering, clear, and transparent dot, about the size of a white mustard seed, visualize it as appearing but without inherent existence, focusing on this white dot without letting the mind wander. Clearly manifest it, then relax and let the mind rest naturally. Do not let thoughts interrupt. Meditate in the same way again. Shorter sessions with more repetitions, as before. Do this for three days as well, or adjust the meditation according to your experience, and observe the experience from time to time. Then, again, as before, visualize your body as if it were a hollow bamboo tube, and in the empty space directly in front of your heart, visualize the essence of wind and mind combined, a red dot of light, shimmering like a medium-sized butter lamp, bluish in color and clear, the touch is warm, but it doesn't burn outwards, nor does it touch the chest, visualize it clearly in the space of the heart. Focus awareness on it, clearly manifest it, and do not interrupt. If you wander, clearly establish the visualization. If awareness becomes dull and cannot grasp the object of visualization, it means that the wind element has arisen, so take nutritious food, relax the visualization a little, and rest. During this time, do not wander as usual, but maintain mindfulness and awareness. In general, relaxation is the main thing, so relax naturally, just be aware without wandering. If you feel discouraged or flickering, it means that awareness is distorted, so contemplate the faults of samsara, the difficulty of obtaining leisure and endowments, practice impermanence, and devotion to the guru. Now you have obtained leisure and endowments, encountered the precious teachings, and encountered such a profound path, how wonderful! If you do not strive this time, once you slip, you will not be able to recover in the future! Thinking in this way, cultivate joyful diligence. Through these, calm abiding will arise in the mindstream. If it does not arise, then in the space in front of you, visualize a Vajrasattva about the height of an elbow, appearing but without inherent existence, white and clear like polished crystal, with the nature of light.

Meditate clearly. Repeat the practice with short durations and many repetitions as before. Regarding this, in the Sutra of the Gathering of the Buddha's Intentions, it is said that merely remembering Vajrasattva brings benefits beyond expression. Furthermore, in the space in front of you, visualize the body of the Bhagavan Shakyamuni Buddha, radiant like gold, and focus your awareness on it. Here too, the benefits of this visualization are immeasurable, as stated in the Samadhiraja Sutra. Also, in the space in front of you, visualize the noble Avalokiteshvara, clear and bright, and at his heart, the white and radiant syllable HRIH (藏文:ཧྲཱིཿ,梵文天城体:ह्रीः,梵文罗马拟音:hrīḥ,汉语字面意思:啥) with a distinct stroke, and focus your mind steadily on it. Regarding this, the benefits are also said to be immeasurable in the Za Ma Tog Sutra. Through these visualizations, thoughts will gradually decrease. Initially, thoughts will increase and become more intense, which is a sign that meditation is beginning to arise. At this time, meditation may become tiresome, or you may feel, "I am not suited for meditation." Or, you may feel that thoughts become coarser during meditation, so there is a risk of giving up. Do not become weary, but gently guide and cultivate the practice. The increase in thoughts indicates that you have grasped the essence of meditation. Previously, thoughts roamed freely like wild horses, because there was no mindfulness to guard them, so they were allowed to run wild. Now, the increase in thoughts is because the guardian of mindfulness has seen and recognized them, which is a sign that you want to generate meditation. Therefore, gently recognize the thoughts, and even if you recognize them, do not suppress them. Do not follow them, but focus on the visualization. In this way, thoughts will become finer and fewer. Even if you meditate as before, if negative thoughts suddenly arise, let the thoughts themselves become the object of visualization. Whether it is desire, hatred, or negative habits, recognize them, then relax your mind and let go. Sometimes, a thought arises, clearly grasp it, and then let it naturally dissolve. Another thought arises, recognize it, do not follow any arising thought, but let it arise and dissolve. Sometimes, focus on no object, sometimes, let thoughts arise and dissolve, relax and let go in an uncorrected state. By alternating in this way, thoughts will not be connected like a string of beads, thoughts will become fragmented, negative thoughts will decrease, and good thoughts will arise. For this, you can meditate for three days or more, according to your experience. From these meditations, a qualified shamatha will arise, and then completely cut off awareness.
