It is not enough to just act docile and gentle in front of others; one must see if one can establish oneself with one's own mind as witness, without any hidden agendas. If one's discipline is not pure, the qualities of realization will not arise, so one must be careful. Patience is: being able to endure without agitation all the hardships and sufferings for the sake of the Dharma caused by others' wrongdoings. Especially, when it comes to profound meanings and difficult practices, one should not be afraid and think, "I cannot understand or practice such things," and one should not be discouraged. In the past, there were foolish people who were cowherds, but later became learned panditas. There are also many examples of sinful old fools who attained accomplishment by practicing profound Dharma. So, why can't I understand? Why can't I practice? One must generate such courage. In particular, anger is a bad crowd, and false oaths are very great faults. All vows and commitments will be broken, the streams of oneself and others will be burned, and the minds of householders will be disgusted. Even if one has a hundred good qualities, one will fall down because of this one fault, so one must be careful. If an ordinary person gets angry or gets involved in disputes, one might think, "Of course, such a person would do that." However, if someone wearing the robes of a renunciate does so, it becomes a cause for everyone's ridicule. Therefore, one must learn as much as possible not to be controlled by anger. Diligence is: thinking that the efforts made so far for worldly activities that are meaningless and have great faults are enough. Now, one must generate the thought of practicing the Dharma that accomplishes the ultimate goal, and this is what it means to rejoice from the heart. If there is such joy, then the body and speech will also naturally be used for good. If there is no joy in the mind, then even if the body and speech make temporary efforts, it will not last long and will soon be controlled by laziness. Therefore, the mind is like a king who rules over everything, speech is like a messenger who communicates information, and the body is like a servant who does all the work. If the mind generates joy towards the sacred Dharma, then the body and speech will also be under its control, and thus

Ah, no matter what suffering arises, there will be a time when one is unharmed, so the mind should be joyful towards the virtuous side, and this desire for seeking is very important. Those who have no interest in the Dharma are like patients who have lost their appetite for food; no matter what food is placed before them, they will only pick up a little and then become disgusted. Similarly, whether it is recitation, repetition, listening, thinking, studying, or meditation, if one has no interest in anything, it means that they have lost their connection with the Dharma. Meditation is abandoning busyness and abiding single-pointedly in samadhi in a secluded place. Therefore, being among many people, doing various things while talking and chatting, and looking around casually will not work. Moreover, even the recitations in monasteries will not allow the mind to be calm but will cause it to be distracted. If one wants genuine practice, one must abandon all of that. Even if one lives in the mountains, if there are too many people, distraction and attachment and aversion will arise. Even if there are only two people, it will turn into chatting, so if one can stay alone, practice will naturally occur. The actual thing to meditate on is, whether it is the mind training of the preliminary practices or the practice of the six bardos in the main practice, one must not let the mind wander elsewhere. If one cannot always stay in a secluded place, then in one's lifetime, do not always accumulate wealth, do not always hoard possessions, but often reflect on oneself, often consider the future, and always maintain mindfulness and vigilance, striving to practice whatever instructions one has previously received. Always generate renunciation and detachment, and do not forget the remembrance of death and impermanence. Whenever there is free time, set aside some sessions, and in between sessions, maintain the state of meditation as it was during the session. Even at the end of each month and year, take some time to engage in practice, this is called meditation. Wisdom is, in general, all the wisdom of listening, thinking, and meditating, so it must be generated in the mind. However, if one does not grasp the essence of the Dharma and only clings to the words, engaging in too much speculation, then everything will become contradictory, to the point that one does not believe in anything, and this is very likely to happen. Therefore, if one does not understand the profound essence of the guru's instructions, even among scholars who have mastered many scriptures
