The Preliminary Instructions for the Six Bardos of Completion Stage: A Guide to Taming One's Own Mind-Stream, Illuminating the Path to Liberation. Written by One Named Guna. The Preliminary Instructions for the Six Bardos of Completion Stage: A Guide to Taming One's Own Mind-Stream, Illuminating the Path to Liberation. Written by One Named Guna. The Preliminary Instructions for the Six Bardos of Completion Stage from the Profound Dharma of Peaceful and Wrathful Deities, Self-Liberation of Intentions: A Guide to Taming One's Own Mind-Stream, Illuminating the Path to Liberation. Homage to śrī samanta bhadra ye. In the primordially pure, free from elaboration, original ground-essence, Perfecting the spontaneously present awareness-wisdom to its ultimate end, The very play of the union, great bliss, and illusion, To the primordial protector who miraculously creates anything, I bow down. The illusory manifestation of the bliss-emptiness mind, Vajrasattva, The empowerment of the speech of the Sugatas, Padmasambhava, The master who holds the secret treasury of the three lineages, Abides as the ornament of the inseparable great bliss wheel. The innermost essence of the hearts of all the Buddhas, the great secret, The profound key points of the instructions, of the kind lama, Whatever oral instructions were given, together with all the Dharma brothers and sisters, And whatever I have realized myself, combining them into one, I will write. Here, in the profound Dharma of Peaceful and Wrathful Deities, Self-Liberation of Intentions, the source and history of the instructions on the six bardos of the completion stage is as follows: The Dharmakaya Samantabhadra, father and mother, who directly realized the self-nature, the original state of being, the unconditioned Dharma-nature as it is. In the Akanishta realm, which is the pure manifestation of self-appearance, having arisen in the form of Vajradhara with the symbolic hand gestures. To the retinue inseparable from himself, the peaceful and wrathful deities of the victorious ones, the wheel of Dharma of the Great Perfection of Self-Nature, beyond the expression of sound and words, manifested from the power of the intention of the Great Self-Arisen Wisdom, is the Intentional Lineage of the Victorious Ones. Then, the glorious Vajrasattva himself appeared in human birth, the emanation Garab Dorje to the master Manjushrimitra, he to Shri Singha, he to the master Padmasambhava, thus the lineage; these, merely by the indication of symbolic methods, realization became integrated into their being, and abiding in the state of vidyadhara, it is called the Symbolic Lineage of Vidyadharas. Then, when Guru Rinpoche came to Tibet and resided there, at the time when the Dharma King Trisong Detsen, the dakini Yeshe Tsogyal, Chokro Lui Gyaltsen, and other fortunate and pure retinues requested, the Great Perfection of Self-Nature

Having extracted the essence of all tantras, it was given as the guidance of the Six Bardos and concealed as treasure, like the servant of the mountain deity of glorious Dagpo Lhagam. Later, when the time, signs, and auspicious connections manifested, Karma Lingpa, the son of Nyima Sangye, extracted it from the treasure. He gave it to his son, Nyima Chökyi. He gave it to Nyima Özer. He gave it to Gyarawa Namkha Chökyi Gyatso, thus making it a single lineage for three generations. Afterwards, Gyarawa spread it widely, and the teachings spread greatly from north to north, and it remains to this day. Since this is a lineage transmitted from mouth to ear, it is called the "Oral Transmission of a Person." This instruction that has come about in this way, the more degenerate the times become, the greater the intensity of its blessings. Even if beings of degenerate times have great afflictions and great sins, if they have faith in this instruction and practice it, they will be liberated in one lifetime. Therefore, having encountered such a profound instruction and being able to practice it, one should generate joy from the heart, thinking, "This is good fortune!" How does one practice it? There are three parts: preliminary, main practice, and concluding practice. First, as the preliminary of a session, the person who has received the instruction should strive in virtuous activities and practice during the first night session. During the middle night session, when sleeping, visualize the abode of the three kayas of awareness, in the center of the four-petaled lotus in the heart, Guru Tso Kyé Dorje, whose essence is the Three Jewels, Three Roots, and Dharma Protectors, residing there, and the rays of light from his body purify one's own body, transforming this coarse mass of flesh and blood into the nature of light. All appearances of outer and inner phenomena are also purified into the nature of clear light, gathering back into the nature of clear light, one's own mind, the nature of awareness, is clear and bright, thinking that the guru's body and one's own mind are inseparable, and without separating from devotion, one sleeps, thinking that the lotus closes its petals as one falls asleep, and without distraction, one merges sleep into clear light. When one awakens, one continues the previous practice, maintaining fervent devotion. Then, during the last night session, at dawn, from the expanse of the sky, many heroes and dakinis with hand drums and bells
