The benefits of not being disturbed by the harm of humans and non-humans, the benefits of all sins being exhausted and burned, the benefits of accumulating vast collections of merit, the benefits of not falling into evil destinies and evil paths after death, the benefits of generating a special path in the mindstream, the benefits of becoming the basis of all vows, and the benefits of ultimately attaining unsurpassed enlightenment, there are eight benefits. That is: it is the basis of inner realization and vows, it is not disturbed by the harm of humans and others, sins are exhausted and merit increases, one does not fall into evil destinies, one obtains a special path, and one ultimately attains unsurpassed enlightenment. The above is stated. The faults of not taking refuge are the opposite of this. Explanation of the definition: Jowo (the Venerable One) said: 'Because it protects from the fear of samsara, and because one goes to the unsurpassed place, it is called taking refuge.' Thus, after the common refuge, next is the aspiration to generate the supreme Bodhicitta. First, arrange the mandala and offerings, place the lama who generates Bodhicitta on a high seat, prostrate at his feet, and then pray: 'Teacher, please listen! Just as the Tathagatas, Arhats, Samyaksaṃbuddhas, and Bhagavad-ones of the past, and the great Bodhisattvas who dwell on the great earth, first generated the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete Bodhicitta, so please, teacher, generate the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete Bodhicitta for me.' Pray in this way three times. Now, regarding the aspiration to generate the supreme Bodhicitta, there are four causes for generating Bodhicitta: accumulating collections of merit, taking special refuge as a preliminary, being motivated by special great compassion, and generating the perception of the Buddha in the lama. Among them, accumulating collections of merit means: visualizing that in the sky in front of you, the lamas, Buddhas, and Bodhisattvas are all seated on precious thrones, lotuses, and moon cushions, and then offering your body and all enjoyments. Special refuge means: being superior to common refuge in four ways, namely, the difference in time, the difference in intention, the difference in the object of refuge, and the difference in purpose. Among them, the difference in time means: the previous common refuge is taking refuge for as long as life lasts. The difference in intention means: oneself... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

皈依处是:佛(sangs rgyas)的色身(gzugs kyi sku),法(chos)是有漏法(zag pa dang bcas pa'i chos),僧(dge 'dun)是声闻僧(nyan thos kyi dge 'dun)。皈依的必要性是生起别解脱戒(so so thar pa'i sdom pa skye ba)。 必要性是生起菩萨戒(byang chub sems dpa'i sdom pa skye ba)。

The meaning of 'sole' is refuge. The objects of refuge are: the Rupakaya (gzugs kyi sku, Form Body) of the Buddha (sangs rgyas), the Dharma (chos) which is the contaminated Dharma (zag pa dang bcas pa'i chos), and the Sangha (dge 'dun) which is the Sangha of Shravakas (nyan thos kyi dge 'dun). The necessity is to generate the Pratimoksha vows (so so thar pa'i sdom pa skye ba). Here, the specific time is: until one has not attained Bodhi (byang chub ma thob kyi bar du). The intention is: for the sake of all limitless sentient beings, the objects of refuge are the Dharmakaya (chos sku, Dharma Body) of the Buddha, the Dharma which is the non-dual nature of the two, and the Sangha which is the Sangha of Bodhisattvas (byang chub sems dpa'i dge 'dun). The necessity is to generate the Bodhisattva vows (byang chub sems dpa'i sdom pa skye ba). At this time, generate the perception of the Lama as the Buddha, and may I and limitless sentient beings attain unsurpassed Bodhi. For that purpose, the Buddha is the teacher, and the Mahayana Dharma is the path. A Bodhisattva abiding on the great earth, thinking to act as a companion on the path, should repeat after the master: All Buddhas and Bodhisattvas abiding in the ten directions, please be mindful of me. Master, please be mindful of me. I, (name), from this time forth, until I reach the essence of enlightenment, go for refuge to the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, the supreme among the two-legged. I go for refuge to the Dharma, the supreme among the peaceful and free from desire, the non-abiding Nirvana. I go for refuge to the Sangha, the supreme among the assemblies, the irreversible Bodhisattvas. The master says: 'This is the means.' The disciple should say: 'Excellent!' The precepts to be learned are the same as the common ones. Then, the immeasurable compassion and the mind of enlightenment: All limitless sentient beings are my old mothers. These old mothers wander in the ocean of suffering of samsara, and I feel great compassion for them. For the benefit of these mothers, I think to attain the state of a Buddha who knows all aspects. Then, generate the perception of the Lama as the Buddha, and repeat after the master: All Buddhas and Bodhisattvas abiding in the ten directions, please be mindful of me. Master, please be mindful of me. I, (name), from beginningless time until now, with the roots of virtue arising from generosity, arising from ethical conduct, and arising from meditation, just as the Buddhas, the Tathagatas, the Arhats, the Perfectly Awakened Ones of the past, and the Bodhisattvas abiding on the great earth, initially generated the unsurpassed... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
