Likewise, by the name of me (name), I generate the mind for unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. I will liberate those sentient beings who have not been liberated. I will give breath to those who have not breathed. I will lead those who have not completely passed beyond sorrow to nirvana.' Repeat three times. The master says, 'This is the method.' The disciple should say, 'Good.' It is not enough to merely generate the mind of enlightenment. It is not enough to merely perform the ritual. One must study the precepts. This includes: abandoning the four black dharmas, relying on the four white dharmas, not forsaking sentient beings, and increasing and purifying the mind of enlightenment. The four black dharmas are: misleading the lama and those worthy of offerings with a deceitful mind; treating sentient beings with hypocrisy and deceit; uttering hateful non-verses to a Bodhisattva who has generated the mind of enlightenment; and causing others to regret non-repentant matters. The four white dharmas, the opposite of these, are: not speaking false words to the lama and those worthy of offerings even for the sake of one's life; not being hypocritical and deceitful to sentient beings with impure intentions; regarding a Bodhisattva who has generated the mind of enlightenment as a teacher and proclaiming his good name in the ten directions; and even if others are engaged in virtue, directing them towards unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, not towards Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. Not forsaking sentient beings means helping others without regret, even if one's own body and possessions are harmed. Increasing and purifying the mind of enlightenment means performing the elaborate ritual at least three times during the day and three times during the night. Alternatively, one can perform the abbreviated ritual three times. The benefit is: 'The merit of the mind of enlightenment, if it had form, would fill the entire expanse of space, and it would increase even more.' Thus it is said. The ritual of taking refuge and generating the mind of enlightenment, dictated by the master, is complete. The Ritual of Dedication for the Living and the Dead Namo Ratna Guru (藏文:ན་མོ་རཏྣ་གུ་རུ།,梵文天城体:नमोरत्नगुरु,梵文罗马拟音:namo ratna guru,Homage to the Jewel Guru). The precious master said, 'In general, dedicating the root of virtue is very important.' If one creates a root of virtue and does not dedicate it, it will be exhausted. If one dedicates it to a lower goal, it will also be exhausted. If regret arises, it will be exhausted. If one proclaims it, it will be exhausted. What will not be exhausted is that it will increase more and more. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, how to dedicate? It is necessary to dedicate the roots of virtue. Regarding the object of dedication, it is accomplished if dedicated before the sacred objects of the Buddhas, it is accomplished if dedicated before those who possess Bodhicitta (enlightenment mind), it is accomplished if dedicated before one's own Guru (spiritual teacher). The basis for dedication is to dedicate all the roots of virtue of the three times. That is, dedicating the roots of virtue of the past, dedicating the roots of virtue of the future, and dedicating all the roots of virtue of the present. In short, all the roots of virtue can be summarized into three: those arising from generosity, those arising from discipline, and those arising from meditation. The way of dedicating is not to dedicate for oneself alone, not to dedicate for this life, not to dedicate for the purpose of attaining the Hearer or Solitary Realizer state, but to dedicate for the sake of myself and all limitless sentient beings attaining the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. This is a vast dedication. Until Buddhahood is attained, the result will not be exhausted. For example, if a drop of saliva is dropped on a stone, it will dry immediately, but if a drop of saliva is dropped into the ocean, it will not dry until the ocean dries up. Similarly, in the presence of one's own Guru and other holy beings, dedicating all the virtues accumulated in the three times for the sake of myself and all limitless sentient beings attaining the state of a Buddha who knows all aspects, with the intention of dedicating, it will be accomplished as it is dedicated. Therefore, by taking the essence from meaningless enjoyment, accomplishing great meaning, it is like burying a treasure. Visualize that all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas are dwelling in the sky in front. May I and all limitless sentient beings attain the state of a Buddha who knows all aspects. For that purpose, I dedicate all the roots of virtue accumulated in the three times to unsurpassed enlightenment, thinking thus. Then, following the dedicator, recite: 'May the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas dwelling in the ten directions heed me. May the Sangha (community of practitioners) heed me. I, (saying one's name), from beginningless time until now, the roots of virtue arising from generosity, arising from discipline, and arising from meditation, the roots of virtue that I have done, caused to be done, and rejoiced in, and especially this year, offering to the Three Jewels, honoring the Sangha,' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
