Then, I observed: the mothers in hell suffer from heat and cold, and from being boiled and roasted; the mothers in the preta realm suffer from hunger and thirst; the mothers in the animal realm suffer from ignorance and stupidity; the mothers in the asura realm suffer from fighting and contention; the mothers in the deva realm suffer from death and falling; the mothers in the human realm suffer from busyness and so on. There is no happiness for the mothers, only suffering. Now, for the sake of all these mothers, I must attain the state of a fully enlightened Buddha, liberate them from the ocean of suffering in samsara, and establish them in the state of unsurpassed enlightenment. Generating such a thought eliminates the obstacles of the lower vehicles. After that, one must meet a true guru. The guru will impart the true instructions, introducing all the phenomena of samsara and nirvana as one's own mind, thereby realizing the nature of one's own mind—emptiness, free from all elaborations, realizing the non-dual essence as one. Remaining in that state without change eliminates the obstacles of grasping at objects and characteristics. Before all of these, one must take refuge in the Three Jewels. As it is said in the scriptures: 'Precepts are everywhere, but not for those who have not taken refuge.' Therefore, even when taking the vows of individual liberation, one must take refuge; even when taking the bodhisattva vows, one must take refuge; even when receiving the empowerment of the Great Vehicle secret mantra, one must take refuge. Here is the time to receive the empowerment of secret mantra. There are four classes of secret tantras: Kriya Tantra, Charya Tantra, Yoga Tantra, and Anuttarayoga Tantra. Here, it is Anuttarayoga Tantra, which is divided into Father Tantra and Mother Tantra. Here, it is Mother Tantra. Among them, the Chakrasamvara Tantra is the most profound and important. Through this tantra, one receives empowerment and blessings through Vajrayogini, the mother who gives birth to all the Buddhas of the three times. Therefore, one must first take refuge and generate bodhicitta. Now, recite the refuge and bodhicitta liturgy. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Because I cannot save you, visualize countless Buddhas and Bodhisattvas residing in the sky before you. I shall abandon this ocean of suffering in samsara and attain the supreme precious Bodhi. For this purpose, I contemplate taking refuge in the Guru and the Three Jewels. Repeat after the teacher: 'Teacher, please listen. I, named (so and so), from this time forth until the end of my life, take refuge in the Buddha, the supreme among bipeds! I take refuge in the Dharma, the supreme among the detached! I take refuge in the Sangha, the supreme among assemblies!' Recite this three times. The teacher says: 'This is the means.' The disciple says: 'Very good.' Taking refuge alone is not enough; one must also learn what should be learned. Among these, the first are the three special objects of study: To distinguish oneself from ordinary beings and non-Buddhists, having taken refuge in the Buddha, do not prostrate to worldly deities; having taken refuge in the Dharma, do not harm or injure sentient beings; having taken refuge in the Sangha, do not rely on non-Buddhists. These are the three special objects of study. The three that correspond to these are: to cultivate glory and perfection, learn to treat objects of refuge with respect: having taken refuge in the Buddha, avoid disrespecting painted or sculpted images of the Buddha, and cultivate respect; having taken refuge in the Dharma, avoid disrespecting even a four-line verse, and cultivate respect; having taken refuge in the Sangha, avoid disrespecting ordained monks and nuns, and cultivate respect. These are the three objects of study that correspond to these. The five common objects of study are: from the perspective of difficulty, even for the sake of life, body, or reward, do not abandon the Three Jewels; whether sick, happy, or sad, whatever important event occurs, do not consult oracles, do not perform Bön rituals, and do not seek other means; from the perspective of fulfilling needs, whatever you eat or drink, learn to offer the first portion; learn to make offerings at all times; wherever you go, in whatever direction, do not prostrate to or take refuge in the local deities; from the perspective of remembering benefits, learn to increase and practice taking refuge three times during the day and three times during the night.' If you study in this way, although countless benefits are mentioned, Jowo (a respectful title, referring to Atisha) summarized them into eight: the benefits of belonging to the inner Buddhist path, and... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
