To focus the mind on that ground, one should utter the syllable "Hūṃ" vocally, with a very long tone and melody. Mixing it with the breath is key. Sometimes the syllable "Hūṃ" should also be uttered briefly. If one does this continuously for a long time without interruption, the experience of conceptual thoughts arising as the nature of reality will not occur. If one does not like that, then to focus the mind on emptiness gradually: again, do the body posture etc. as before, and first dissolve the many parts of the body into various parts, such as names, etc. By naming them separately, one should know that the body is not made of substance. Then, for all external appearances, search and name them in the same way, but one will not find any substance anywhere. Thus, understand that all that is named by names is empty, and the objects themselves will also become empty. Then, gradually, the nature of reality will not go into emptiness. If one still does not like that, then insert awareness into whatever form appears, and let the mind abide in a state of emptiness for a moment. At that time, whatever one looks at will quickly dissolve into emptiness. If one meditates in this way for a long time, all appearances will not become empty like breathing on a mirror. That is, first there is appearance, second there is emptiness, and third, nothing has substance. If one gives a name to such meditation, it is called the meditation of combining day and night. Because day is the part that has passed, and night is the part of samsara. Therefore, at this time, combining samsara and nirvana is called the nature of reality in which no object exists anywhere. At that time, there is no reason for the clarity of meditation during the day, and no reason for the obscurity of the night, but they are combined. The key there is the stillness of the ocean: because it is the nature of tears, it is called the ocean. Whatever one meditates on, the key is to keep the eyes still. If one does not meditate, one does not meditate; once one starts to meditate, the key is not to blink. By doing this, for example, just as in the great ocean, all the images of the sun, moon, stars, etc. appear clearly, but the ocean is not stained, and exists in the realm of appearance, but does not exist in the realm of grasping. When one meditates in this way, external appearances arise as experiential appearances, but because they are not real, awareness does not get lost in external appearances, appearance is knowl

Remaining in one's own place without interfering in any way is called meditation. If, during meditation, the six consciousnesses cease and one falls into unconsciousness, this is called falling into a one-sided state of calm abiding, which is a fault in meditation. Thus, knowing without being obscured by appearances, and without analyzing appearances with knowledge, is clarity in one's own place. Therefore, the view is said to abide in the ground of appearance and existence. Previously, conceptual elaborations arose at the end of the term "abiding in the ground"; here, the proliferation of words is cut off, and all gatherings are placed on the ground, liberated in their own place. That is, the phenomena of appearance and existence, and the gatherings of names and letters that arise, are placed in their own place, not clinging to words, but liberated in their own place. This is called abiding in the actual state of the ground. At that time, the afflictions themselves are intensified, and their essence manifests as wisdom. For example, just as when a bowl shape is carved into clay, salt immediately appears, so too, the various phenomena of appearance will certainly manifest directly as the Dharmakaya. At that time, that person is named, and it is called the time of abiding in the Dharma. All the phenomena of samsara and nirvana abide in one's own mind, and without separating or distinguishing them, abiding in their own place is called meditation. These were taught in the Tantra of the Union of the Sun and Moon. For a yogi who continuously practices the view: There are two types of views: the general view and one's own view. The general view is the different tenets of the nine vehicles. These are the views of words, which are grasping at conceptual thoughts. One's own view is the view of the Great Perfection, effortless and spontaneously accomplished, looking at external phenomena, one sees that they have no self-nature; looking at the inner Dharma-nature, one sees that there is no birth; looking at the secret self-awareness, one sees awareness directly. So, how does one see? When looking at the object of division with the vajra eye, the way of seeing is that the appearance of the object is like an illusion, or like a dream dreamed last night; realizing that the delusion is not truly established, and now there is no turning back in the three realms, so the mind is at ease. When looking at specific phenomena with the eye of wisdom, one sees that the conventional meaning appears in various ways, but has no self-nature, like an illusion, realizing that there is nothing to grasp in the Dharma-nature, and that awareness has no dependence on karma and habitual tendencies, so the mind is at ease. The inner Dharma-nature is
