Having attained enlightenment here, turning the wheel of Dharma, entering into complete nirvana, abiding in the Dharma, and being skilled in demonstrating the power of the Dharma, at once in all the boundless realms of the ten directions, manifesting the twelve deeds, is the supreme emanation body. In each of those emanations, he also emanates as six kinds of taming awakened ones to tame the six kinds of beings according to their respective faculties and perceptions, benefiting them. As it says in the Sutra of the Elephant's Strength: 'Manjushri, when this great bodhisattva enters the samadhi called Great Lotus, he completely takes hold of the place of hell beings and makes them experience the bliss of the gods there. Those beings also see hell as a land of bliss. In that way, he teaches the Dharma to the hell beings, causing them to be liberated from hell.' Also, as it says in the Avatamsaka Sutra: 'Good son, the emanations of the Tathagata are immeasurable, and he benefits those who need to be tamed with various forms, colors, and names.' Thus it is said. So, how do the Buddhas benefit beings in the places of the six kinds of beings? In the Illusion Master it says: 'In the realm of the gods, Indra is the lord; for the asuras, the coppersmith; in the human realm, Shakyamuni is the lord who tames the maras; in the realm of the pretas, the mouth blazes; among animals, he speaks as a lion; in hell, Yama is the lord of karma.' Thus it is. These six realms are the aforementioned realm of the great ocean of wisdom, located in the center of the dust-like worlds, in the heart of the lotus in the palm of the hand, there are twenty-five layers of stacked worlds, and the thirteenth is this Sahā world. The term 'Sahā' means patience and roughness, meaning that the beings of this land do not tire of attachment, do not tire of hatred, do not tire of ignorance, and do not tire of the bonds of afflictions. The word 'Sahā' means patience or ability, hence it is called that. As for the karmic appearances of various beings, as it says in the Avatamsaka Sutra: 'The differences of karma are inconceivable, the hell realms sink downwards, and the Yama realms have relaxed nostrils.' Beings of animal realms and Asuras go up and down. Furthermore, those who go with their heads up are in the higher realms; those who go horizontally are animals; those who go with their heads down are in the hells and among the pretas. These six are all complete within a single trichiliocosm. As it says in the small commentary on the Essence: "A single trichiliocosm has six formations; it is known as the field of a single emanation." As it is said, the realms of the four continents from the center of the wind mandala up to Akanishta are counted as one thousandfold world system, surrounded by a single ring of mountains, which is the first thousand. A thousand of these form a millionfold world system, surrounded by a second ring. A thousand of these millionfold world systems form a trichiliocosm, surrounded by a third ring. Like that, a hundred kotis is called a rabjam boundary. A hundred of those kotis is called a rabjam continuum. A hundred of those is called a rabjam ocean of world systems. Ten billion of those is one field adorned with a foundation and the essence of a lotus, which is said to be the field of a supreme nirmanakaya. In those places, as many as there are disciples to be tamed, with their faculties, powers, and behaviors, that many lamps of taming are arranged, and they act for the benefit of sentient beings through four modes of taming. That is, taming through the great merit of the body, taming through the direct perception of the mind, taming through inconceivable magical displays, and taming through the wisdom of speech. The first of these four, the activity of our teacher, the nirmanakaya, is an inconceivable state, so there is no way to definitively fix a number or anything like that, and the appearance of more or less in the Mahayana sutras is not considered contradictory. Here, we mainly collect: the birth of the body, renunciation, practicing austerities, defeating Mara, attaining enlightenment, turning the wheel of dharma, displaying great miracles, and passing into nirvana are taming through the great merit of the body, because those disciples who directly see these things possess immeasurable merit, so it is said in that way. Second, taming through the direct perception of the mind is that, through the wisdom that is unattached and unobstructed to the three times, one engages with all knowable objects, and without conceptualizing the three times separately, one knows the three times without any obscuration.
