我，龙王持世，夜叉星箭面，罗刹智巧方便，人类持明者名闻利查威无垢。五种具誓种姓以自己的神通了知世尊已圆寂，从入定中起身，以神通力于楞伽国的喜马拉雅山顶聚集。呜呼！呜呼世间颠倒！导师明灯之光熄灭时，世间黑暗将由谁来消除？如是等发出二十三句悲叹之词，痛哭流涕。当世尊于世间授记未来将广弘密咒之声时，时机已到，秘密主金刚手为使佛陀能开示密咒而获得灌顶，故显现于彼处，对五种姓及其他多数持明僧众，复述先前导师于色究竟天等地所开示之密咒乘，罗刹智巧方便将之以黄金书板，用琉璃熔汁书写成文字，以七种意之功力，于虚空中不显现地加以封印隐藏。此理乃如因扎菩提之胜乐根本续释中所引之文。有喜马拉雅山的楞伽国，并非赡部洲之属洲罗刹之楞伽，乃是世尊应楞伽主声吼之子十颈所请，由大慧请问而说甚深广大之《楞伽经》之所处，是赡部洲东南方海所隔之小岛。此岛屿及其他，铜洲、麦洲、达那室利洲、巴依古洲等小岛，皆随各自先后而有教法弘扬。特别是楞伽国，先前由罗刹声吼所占据，故有此名，后来罗刹之境衰败，由狮子王占据，故现今称为锡兰洲，大成就者卡纳巴曾到此地，降伏名为毗湿奴茹毗的五眷属大女魔。

I, the Naga King Sustainer, the Yaksha Star Arrow Face, the Rakshasa Wise and Skillful, the human Vidyadhara renowned as Licchavi Immaculate. The five kinds of oath-bound lineages, knowing through their own supernormal knowledge that the World-Honored One had passed into complete nirvana, arose from their samadhi and gathered by means of miraculous powers on the summit of Mount Himalaya in the land of Lanka. Alas! Alas, the world is in turmoil! When the light of the Teacher's lamp is extinguished, who will dispel the darkness of the world? Thus, they uttered twenty-three verses of lamentation and wept bitterly. When the time came, as the World-Honored One had prophesied that the sound of mantra would become widely known in the world in the future, the Lord of Secrets, Vajrapani, appeared there manifestly in order to obtain the empowerment for the Buddha to teach the secret mantras, and to the five lineages and the majority of the Vidyadhara Sangha, he repeated the tantric vehicles that the Teacher had previously taught in Akanishta and other places. The Rakshasa Wise and Skillful wrote these down on golden tablets with molten lapis lazuli, and sealed them invisibly in the sky with the power of the seven intentions. This is as quoted in the commentary on the Shri Chakrasamvara Root Tantra of Indrabhuti. The land of Lanka with the Himalayas is not the Lanka of the Rakshasas, an island subordinate to Jambudvipa, but the place where the World-Honored One, at the request of the ten-necked son of the Lord of Lanka, Sound Roar, and at the inquiry of Mahamati, spoke the profoundly vast Lankavatara Sutra, a small island separated by the sea to the southeast of Jambudvipa. On this island and others, such as Copper Island, Wheat Island, Dhana Shri Island, and Pa'i Gu Island, the teachings have flourished in various ways, according to their respective times. In particular, the land of Lanka was formerly occupied by the Rakshasa Sound Roar, hence the name, but later the Rakshasa realm declined, and it was occupied by the Lion King, so it is now called Ceylon. The great adept Kanhapa went to this land and subdued the great demoness Vishvarupi with her five attendants.

He subdued the multitudes, including the Chinese, and propagated the teachings of tantra, and so forth. Later, the Mahayana master Lanka Gyalwa Zangpo was born, and the master Chandragomin also came to that place. Shantipa and Panchen Nakyi Rinchen also came and propagated the teachings of tantra, and so forth. In the past, when the king Rama destroyed the ten-faced demon Ravana, he built a stone bridge across the great ocean between Jambudvipa and them, so now a large pile of stones is clearly visible in the ocean, and sometimes because the pile of stones obstructs, one has to go around. It is said that the ground is covered only with red stones stained with the blood of the ten-faced demon Ravana who was killed there, and it is necessary to go there early in the morning. In the center of that place is a mountain ridge called Sumana Kuta, which means "well-minded accumulation." Above that, it is surrounded by a chain of rocky mountains, which ordinary people cannot pass through. The Panchen master and disciples also went there and stayed for six years before going to India. That mountain there, although it is commonly known by that name, is actually a mountain of fierce power, or the Malaya mountain, possessing all the characteristics. As it is said: On the peak dwells the king of skills, On the slope are white rocks like dogs, Adorned with the appearance of lions stretching to the sky, Eighty kinds of medicinal herbs grow at the roots, It is not overcome by diseases of aggregation, On the crown is Kalantaka, Where two people dwell alone, The one who possesses treasures is complete with everything, The fortunate ones easily pass through, The unfortunate ones cannot escape. Thus it is said. The qualities that are more worthy of praise than other continents, and which are superior to other continents, are that near the root of that mountain, directly to the north, is the great stupa called Gunavira, and many stupas containing the relics of the Tathagata. To the west of that mountain is a place called Buddha Sharana, where the Tathagata meditated for seven days, and the tree under which he meditated. And Jali Mukti Katali Manika, Rane Vane Kunjara Ghari Ghari Padma Ninarī, Bhala Desha Singhala. The waters are pearls, the houses are filled with jewels, the forests are filled with elephants, the houses are filled with lotus-like women, this is the land of Singhala. It is said that this is a special praise. To the northeast is Gandala.
