Just as a spider web appears, it is extremely difficult to even approach the profound aspect of reality. As stated in the Sutra of the Essence of the Buddha, neither ordinary individuals, nor Shravakas, nor Pratyekabuddhas, nor Bodhisattvas can see the essence of the Buddha as it is. For example, if a blind person asks someone about the color of butter, and they say it is like snow, the blind person touches the snow and perceives the color of butter as cold. If asked, "What is the color of snow like?" The reply is, "Like the wings of a swan." Hearing the sound of the swan's wings, the blind person perceives the color of snow as noisy. If asked, "What is the color of the wings like?" The reply is, "Like a conch shell." Touching the conch shell and finding it smooth, the blind person perceives the snow as smooth as well. No matter how it is described, the blind person cannot know the color as it is; similarly, it is extremely difficult to see the nature of the Buddha. Thus it is taught. Similarly, the noble Manjushri, in the Oral Instructions on the Means of Accomplishing Thatness, also said: "Such supreme wisdom, how can ordinary beings know it? Shravakas do not know it, Pratyekabuddhas also do not know it, Yogacharas and Madhyamikas, Bodhisattvas do not know it, even Buddhas with their retinue do not know it even slightly." And so forth, the Victorious Ones with their heirs have extensively taught. It is so difficult to realize because of effort, desire, speculation, and the mind that is solely focused on the conceptualization of cause and effect, and the various characteristics of elaboration that arise from the mind and mental factors, clinging to the object and subject of perception, being disturbed and obscured by hope and fear. But here, in the general path of Dzogchen, by resting in equanimity without moving from the state of the inherent way of being, the natural state of reality without bondage or liberation, all elaborations naturally subside into their own essence. From this, one cultivates the continuous abiding in the great state beyond mind, free from all activities, without fabrication or alteration. All sudden stains of skillful appearances, like water and waves, are naturally purified, naturally clear, and naturally liberated in the expanse of self-awareness, primordial emptiness, and immutability, without establishing them as enemies to be abandoned. Other than that, one does not seek elsewhere, does not deliberately meditate, does not abide in one, does not fix with the mind, does not...

Not discriminating, not considering it a fault, not excluding it externally, not embellishing it internally, but simply abiding in its own nature and own state, is called meditation samadhi. Therefore, the essence is emptiness because it is beyond thought and words, it is signless because it is free from discrimination, it is wishless because it is free from acceptance and rejection, hope and doubt, and it abides by its own nature as the characteristic of the complete cessation of the three wheels because it does not allow focus on the three times. As it is said in the Bodhisattva Pitaka: "What is the complete cessation of the three wheels? It is not focusing the mind on the past, not following consciousness to the future, and not focusing attention on the present. Because it does not abide in mind, intellect, and consciousness, it does not remember the past, does not speculate about the future, and does not cling to the present. This is the equality of the three times, the complete purification of the three wheels, but sentient beings do not understand it, so they should be made to understand it." Thus, the great compassion of the Tathagata pervades all sentient beings. Also, as it is said in the Brahma-visesa-citta-pariprccha-sutra: "All dharmas are completely pure from the beginning, all dharmas are completely pure from the end, all dharmas are completely pure from the present arising, this is called the complete purification of the three times. This complete purity never turns into impurity, because of complete purity, self-nature is completely pure, this is extremely pure, therefore all dharmas are called self-nature luminosity. What is the self-nature of all dharmas? All dharmas are of the nature of emptiness, free from objects. All dharmas are of the nature of signlessness, free from discrimination and non-discrimination. All dharmas are of the nature of wishlessness, without acceptance, without rejection, without thought, without ability, extremely free from self-nature, therefore it is self-nature luminosity. The nature of samsara is the nature of nirvana, the nature of nirvana is the nature of all dharmas, therefore the mind is called self-nature luminosity." And so on. Also, as it is said in the Kun-byed rGyal-po:
