The means of purifying the habitual tendencies from the moment of conception to birth, the mudra is singular but has two aspects, subtle and coarse. That is, due to the cause of craving for the place where one will be born, one cannot enter there. The means of purifying the intermediate state is subtle, which is to train in the nature of the samadhi of the generation stage, which has eight degrees of clarity and stability of syllables. And entering between the sperm and ovum of the parents, until the stage of awakening of the external senses to objects, the means of purifying the coarse is to train in the four manifest enlightenments of the deity, and to train in accordance with the manner of the four types of birth, which are produced by the three assemblies, etc. The means of purifying the habitual tendencies from birth to adulthood is also fourfold, training in the mudra with elaboration. As it is said in the Stages of the Path, "Wheels, clusters, numbers, faces, and hands." Thus, there are four: expanding the mandala, expanding the clusters, expanding the numbers, and expanding the faces and hands. These four are, in order, the peaceful and wrathful mandalas of great, medium, and concise, and the clusters of one, three, and five. As for the numbers, for the peaceful, there are one thousand and twenty-four thousand, and Samye Lhundrup, etc. For the wrathful, there are also one thousand four hundred and fifty, and seventy-six thousand eight hundred and fifty, and training in Samye Lhundrup, etc. The faces and hands are also in the manner of great, medium, and concise. The means of purifying the habitual tendencies from adulthood to old age, in the practice of the assembly wheel, is to take the basis of practice with the five perfections, to support the practice with the four limbs of approach and accomplishment, and to show the time of attaining the fruit of the Knowledge Holder. In the connection of these three, the limbs and distinctions will become infinite. Thus, these five paths with outflows, downwards, are similar to samsara, therefore they purify those habitual tendencies. Upwards, they nourish the power of the three bodies of the Buddha and the activities of those kinds, therefore they are perfected in the result. In between, the lower path lays the foundation for the upper path to be able to meditate, therefore it becomes a means of ripening. Secondly, the way of purifying with the subtle completion stage is also, in meditation similar to those, in a place where thorns do not arise, by possessing the key points of the body, leaving the awareness uncorrected and abiding in its natural state, which is the general pouring of awareness, and remembering the view of hearing and thinking, abiding in that state, which is abiding after seeing, by any of the two means of abiding.

The first practice is to cultivate the samadhi of non-discrimination, the yoga of daytime, and to combine the clear light of deep sleep at night, practicing the union of day and night, perfecting the five experiences. The second is to cultivate the arising of emptiness-form from the state of mind ceasing in the state of emptiness-clear light, and to expand without attachment whatever clear light appearances arise at night. The third is to melt the diverse appearances with the force of great compassion through samadhi, and correspondingly, to expand whatever appearances arise with the single mudra deity form. The fourth is to allow the deity appearance to increase greatly, so that all appearances become the union deity form, the main deity and retinue, and the mandala complete and unmixed, becoming accustomed to this. The fifth is to rely on any mandala, in accordance with the generation stage with signs, or to rely on the signless yogi male and female main deities, parents and retinue, or extremely signless, to rely on the father's unchanging great bliss, and the mother's emptiness endowed with all perfections, meditating on the union of union. The conduct during these times is also twofold: the conduct of the path of means, the ascetic conduct, and the conduct of the path of liberation, the cautious conduct. The latter is further divided into seven: the conduct of faith and diligence, the conduct in accordance with wisdom, the conduct in accordance with compassion, the conduct of singleness, the conduct with signs, the conduct of retinue, the conduct of miraculous powers, and the conduct of suddenness. Through these, according to the distinction of superior, middling, and inferior intelligence, six months, one year and two months, and one year and four months are used to train in the uncontaminated path of seeing. As it is said in the Stages of the Path: "Thirty nights times six, or twelve, fourteen, sixteen, accomplish the noble one of the sovereign lineage." This is what is said. The third is the Vidyadhara, the fruit of the path transformation: Having meditated in this way, at the end of the uncontaminated seeing and meditation, the four Vidyadharas, which are included in the three paths, are manifested, that is, the path of seeing, according to the magnitude of the power of intelligence, those who have not transformed the ripened body into a pure body are the Ripened Vidyadhara, and those who have transformed the ripened body into a pure body are the two, the Supreme Accomplishment of the Path, the Vidyadhara of Life Empowerment, and the remaining nine bhumis are included in the Great Seal Vidyadhara of the path of meditation. Among these, from the second to the fifth is Vajra.
