Then, the nature of being without difference is called Vajra. It is said. That which is indestructible is the Dharma that has become a name. That which cannot be destroyed by anything is the essence of Dharmata, therefore it is the mind of all Buddhas. Since it is similar to Vajra, the mind of all Buddhas is called Vajra, just as mentioned above, abiding in the essence of mantra. Since it is the basis for attaining it or the means of traversing, the word "yana" is used to express the way of expressing and being expressed. In the commentary on the Compendium, it says: "Vajrayana is the collection of all Mahayana, which is the six perfections. The collection of these is skillful means and wisdom, and the collection of these is the one taste, which is Bodhicitta. That is also the Samadhi of Vajrasattva, and that itself is Vajra. Since it is both Vajra and Yana, it is called Vajrayana, which means the mantra yana." It is called unsurpassed because it is the most excellent of all yanas. It is said. Arya Avalokiteshvara said in the Immaculate Light: "Vajra means indivisible wisdom, the inconceivable mind Vajra. Whoever has it is the Vajra holder." It is said. "Vajra is indivisible and indestructible, and that itself is Yana, which is Vajrayana, the way of mantra, and the way of Paramita, the nature of fruit and cause merged into one." It is said. "Vajrayana is the yana of the perfectly complete Buddha, since the yanas of heretics, Shravakas, and Pratyekabuddhas cannot divide it, it is Vajrayana. Therefore, one can attain liberation through this, so it is Vajrayana." And so on, widely proclaimed. Alternatively, the word Tantra means to protect the mind, because "citta" (藏文:ཙི་ཏན་,梵文天城体:चित्त,梵文罗马拟音:citta,汉语字面意思:心) means mind and "traya" (藏文:ཏྲ་ཡ་,梵文天城体:त्रय,梵文罗马拟音:traya,汉语字面意思:保护) means protection. In the Difficult Explanation - Possessing Wisdom, it says: "It protects from the mind's conceptual thoughts, therefore it is a continuum. Becoming a collection or kind of continuums, therefore it is a Tantra." As it appears. Or, like the strings of a lute, it refers to continuous existence, from sentient beings to Buddhas, the Dharma nature of the mind, naturally pure, which is the ground, path, and fruit.

Because it is contained by the three and exists in continuous connection, it is called "རྒྱུད" (Continuity, Sanskrit: tantra, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: tantra, Chinese literal meaning: continuation). The Guhyasamaja Tantra says: "རྒྱུད (Continuity, Sanskrit: tantra, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: tantra, Chinese literal meaning: continuation) means continuous; རྒྱུད (Continuity, Sanskrit: tantra, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: tantra, Chinese literal meaning: continuation) can be divided into three types: base, nature, and non-robbery. Nature is the cause, the base is the means, and non-robbery is the result. The three summarize the meaning of རྒྱུད (Continuity, Sanskrit: tantra, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: tantra, Chinese literal meaning: continuation)." The Later Tantra of the Essence says: "རྒྱུད (Continuity, Sanskrit: tantra, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: tantra, Chinese literal meaning: continuation) is explained as continuous; the result comes from means and cause." Therefore, depending on whether it is grasped by the cause of means or not, it appears as the three: base, path, and result. What is to be realized is the རྒྱུད (Continuity, Sanskrit: tantra, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: tantra, Chinese literal meaning: continuation) of the base or cause; what is realized and practiced through it is the རྒྱུད (Continuity, Sanskrit: tantra, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: tantra, Chinese literal meaning: continuation) of means or path; what is finally reached is the རྒྱུད (Continuity, Sanskrit: tantra, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: tantra, Chinese literal meaning: continuation) of the result. These three are also the base and result རྒྱུད (Continuity, Sanskrit: tantra, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: tantra, Chinese literal meaning: continuation) in relation to the object to be spoken of, and the means or path རྒྱུད (Continuity, Sanskrit: tantra, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: tantra, Chinese literal meaning: continuation) in relation to the object that can be spoken of. Through mantras and their rituals, all the needs of the world and beyond can be accomplished. The Vajrasekhara Sutra says: "Because there is no separation and no lack, it is called རྒྱུད (Continuity, Sanskrit: tantra, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: tantra, Chinese literal meaning: continuation) because it is complete." So, what is the base རྒྱུད (Continuity, Sanskrit: tantra, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: tantra, Chinese literal meaning: continuation)? The clear light of the nature of mind that has been passed down from beginningless time, as well as mind and mental factors, the nature of vessel and content, channels, winds, essences, and the Dharmadhatu, in general, the most important thing is: the base, the original face of no bondage and no liberation, self-aware Bodhicitta, the indivisible truth, free from the object of consciousness, the nature of which is naturally clear light. That is, the special features that are in accordance with the qualities of the result, such as pure lands, bodies, and wisdoms, the great bliss of nature, continuous, obtaining the ground of Dharmata, that is, possessing the four special qualities. This is the basis or cause of samsara and nirvana depending on whether it is realized or not, but the nature does not change and continues, so it is called the རྒྱུད (Continuity, Sanskrit: tantra, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: tantra, Chinese literal meaning: continuation) of the cause. From the point of view that it is the essence of the Buddha, it is the Tathagatagarbha, the qualities of the Dharmakaya in terms of emptiness, and the qualities of the Rupakaya in terms of appearance, residing in a state where it can appear, so it is the naturally abiding lineage, the source of samsara and nirvana.
