Consciousness and intellect, and, thoughts and discriminations are severed, those who have attained the Dharma of discrimination, the Shravakas are the sons of the Buddhas. From the distinctions of Buddha-fields and forbearance, the wisdom of the Tathagatas is excellent. As it is said, and so on. Furthermore, any who speak of the Mind-Only tenets, who consider the ultimate truth to be real, have not transcended consciousness, and that is consciousness with the realm of samsara, it is a mixture, because it cannot transcend the world. The ultimate truth is the uncontaminated realm, and the wisdom free from obscurations that realizes it, is the self-awareness of the noble ones, characterized by transcendence of the world. The difference between these two is, in the Mahayana Sutra Pitaka, it says: Therein, great wisdom, wisdom is of three kinds, worldly, transcendent, and the supreme transcendent. What arises and perishes from it is consciousness. What does not arise and does not perish is wisdom. Furthermore, great wisdom, falling into signs and signlessness, falling into existence and non-existence, what arises from the causes of various characteristics is consciousness. The characteristic that is completely beyond signs and signlessness is wisdom. Furthermore, great wisdom, that which has the characteristics of those and so on is consciousness. The characteristic of diminishing is wisdom. Among them, the three are like this: that which realizes self and general characteristics, that which realizes arising and ceasing, and that which realizes non-arising and non-ceasing. Among them, worldly wisdom is the attachment manifested from the side of existence and non-existence, of the heretics, and of all ordinary people. Among them, transcendent wisdom is the attachment manifested to the thought of falling into self and general characteristics, of all the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. Among them, the supreme transcendent wisdom is that of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, who thoroughly distinguish the dharmas of non-appearance, and see non-arising and non-ceasing, and are free from the sides of existence and non-existence, arising in order to comprehend the realm of the selflessness of the Tathagatas. Furthermore, great wisdom, the characteristic of non-attachment is wisdom, attachment to various objects

That which has characteristics is consciousness. Furthermore, the characteristic of having the activity of arising, which is the gathering of three great wisdoms, is consciousness. The characteristic of the nature of not having it is wisdom. Furthermore, the characteristic of not obtaining great wisdom is wisdom, because in the realm of experience realized by the self-cognizant noble wisdom of each individual, it does not arise and is not allowed to enter, like the moon in water. Therefore, it should be said thus: "The mind, with whom as its activity, etc., wisdom distinguishes, wisdom also makes non-existence appear, and power is also greatly obtained. The mind is connected with the object," and so on, extensively explained. Similarly, in the Sutra of the Noble Jewel Cloud, it says: "This Dharma is completely beyond all letters, completely beyond all speech, completely beyond all realms of words, completely beyond all paths of speech, free from all elaborations, free from all acceptance and rejection, free from all opening and closing, free from all discriminations, not to be examined, not a realm of discrimination, completely beyond the realm of discrimination, without signs, free from signs, completely beyond the realm of signs, completely beyond the realm of children, completely beyond the realm of all demons, completely beyond the realm of all afflictions, completely beyond the realm of consciousness, not a dwelling place, not dwelling, peaceful, the realm of noble wisdom, each individually self-aware of those two, immaculate, unstained, pure, magnificent, supreme, sacred, excellent, constant, stable, firm, fearless Dharma nature, whether the Tathagatas appear or do not appear, this realm of Dharma is only abiding." And so on, extensively showing the inconceivable manner of the ultimate noble wisdom. These Mind-Only proponents do not abide in the path they desire, because they assert that the non-dual knowing of the grasper and the grasped, self-knowing and self-illuminating, is the fundamental cause of Buddhahood, and they believe that the other-powered object is true. Therefore, whoever believes that consciousness is substantially established as the ultimate truth also realizes the selflessness of phenomena as it is.

Because it is difficult to refute. Likewise, in the Lankavatara Sutra, it is said: It is only mind, appearances do not exist. Because appearances do not exist, they do not arise. This path of the Middle Way, I and others have also spoken of. To realize in mind-only, and completely eliminate external objects, through stopping all kinds of conceptual thoughts, that path is the Middle Way. As it is said, the intention of the final teachings of the Buddha abides in the great Madhyamaka of true meaning, which has been clearly explained in their respective treatises by the commentaries of the great Bodhisattvas, the great Mahayana teachers, and the two charioteers (Nagarjuna and Asanga) with their followers. However, some teachers, due to necessity, may speak of other different classifications, but it is difficult to measure whether those are noble or ordinary. If it is established that they reside in the land of the noble ones, then there may be occasions when they speak in that way with other different intentions, so we children should recognize that it is crucial not to cling to one extreme and accumulate the evil karma of abandoning the Dharma. If here it is said to be a Mind-Only school because it teaches the three natures, then the Middle Length Prajnaparamita Sutra says: Maitreya, the completely imputed form should be viewed as unreal. The form that is conceptually imputed, because conceptual thought is real, should be viewed as real, but it does not operate independently. The form of suchness is neither unreal nor real, it should be viewed as being distinguished by ultimate truth. And so on. Also, in the Condensed Meaning of the Eight Thousand Verses Prajnaparamita, it is said: The Prajnaparamita completely relies on the three teachings, namely, the imputed, the dependent, and the perfectly established. With words such as "non-existent," all imputations are prevented; with examples such as illusion, the dependent is truly shown; with four purities, the perfectly established is proclaimed. The Buddhas have not taught any other Prajnaparamita. And so on, the manner of the three natures is also extensively explained in the Middle Length Prajnaparamita Sutra. Similarly, in the "Gate of Entering the Three Bodies" by the teacher Nagarjuna, it is summarized that the three natures are the cause for attaining the three bodies, and it is also the same in the commentary written by the great Madhyamika Yeshe Zawa.
