As it says, "Without the characteristic of existence, it is not empty of the supreme Dharma." Furthermore, in its commentary, it states, "What does this indicate? Why is it that the Tathāgatagarbha, which is pure by its very nature, has no cause for afflictions to be removed, as its nature is free from adventitious stains? In this, there is not even a little cause for purification to be established, as the Dharma of non-differentiation, the Dharma nature of purity, is its very nature. Therefore, the essence of the Tathāgata is the wisdom that is free from differentiation and inseparable, empty of all wombs of affliction, but not empty of the non-differentiated, inseparable, inconceivable qualities of the Buddha, which are more numerous than the sands of the Ganges." Thus it is proclaimed. Moreover, the imputed nature is the absence of inherent existence, the dependent nature is the absence of inherent existence of arising, and the thoroughly established nature is the absence of inherent existence in the ultimate sense. The former two, as stated, are the aspects of fabricated and adventitious grasping and clinging, empty of their own nature. The latter is the emptiness of inherent existence, which is the absence of inherent existence of primordial reality, and because it is pure by its very nature, from the aspect of emptiness, it is the plan for the qualities of the Dharmakāya, and from the aspect of appearance, it is the blueprint for bodies, realms, palaces, and so on. From the aspect of awareness, it is the basis for the ten powers, the four fearlessnesses, and so on. Therefore, it is free from what can be separated and what is to be separated, and it abides as primordially spontaneously accomplished. Therefore, what is called the Buddha-nature of the Tathāgatagarbha does not abide in the realm of birth, death, change, increase, decrease, causes, conditions, and so on, and it is not an object of words and thoughts, but is always present without defilement. As it says in the Mañjuśrīvikrīḍita Sūtra, "Sister, even if adventitious afflictions arise in what is luminous by its very nature, the luminous nature itself cannot be defiled by those adventitious afflictions." And as Gyaltsap Mipham said, "Uncompounded and spontaneously accomplished, not realized through other conditions, endowed with wisdom, compassion, and ability, the Buddha possesses the two benefits." And so on. If, like the self-emptiness of other schools, all phenomena are empty of their own nature.

If one clings only to "I," then ultimately the Dharmakaya will also become self-empty, and body, wisdom, pure lands, etc., will also disappear. Therefore, accumulating merit and purifying obscurations will also disappear. All the vehicles of cause and effect, wherever and by whatever path the methods of purifying defilements are taught, will also become ineffective, because there is nothing to be purified, so there is no need for a purifier. Because wisdom is empty, one will not perform deeds for the benefit of others and will not know. Because impure other-powered phenomena do not exist even nominally, the qualities of pure other-powered phenomena, such as transformation, will also disappear. The selflessness that is the basis of bondage and liberation will also disappear. Because there is no dharma that can be known individually by oneself, many faults such as change exist, and it is said to be the source of inexhaustible views, the nature of birth. In the Sutra Requested by Light Protector in the Holy Jewel Heap Sutra, it says: Light Protector, those who cling to emptiness by focusing on the emptiness of a person, they will completely fall away from my scriptures. Light Protector, it is easy to abide in the view of self of a person as great as Mount Sumeru, but it is not so to cling to emptiness with arrogance. Why is that? Light Protector, emptiness arises from all views. If Light Protector clings only to emptiness, it is incurable, I say. And so on, it can be known. Then is it non-empty? No. In the Holy Lankavatara Sutra, it says: What is the ultimate truth of all dharmas, the great wisdom of the noble ones, emptiness? It is that which is known individually by oneself, obtaining noble wisdom, is the emptiness of the habits of all views and faults. This is called the ultimate truth of all dharmas, the great wisdom of emptiness. And so on. Such ultimate truth, in the manner of other-emptiness, also appears in the sutras of the middle turning of the wheel. In the Twenty-five Thousand Verse Perfection of Wisdom Sutra, it says: What is the emptiness of other entities? Whether the Tathagatas appear or do not appear, the abiding nature of dharma, the nature of dharma, the realm of dharma, the harm of dharma.
