Sixth, regarding the characteristics of the Dharma: Previously, in India, when the Buddha's teachings had not yet declined, translations were made. Moreover, there were tantras not found in India, held by Bodhisattvas who had received empowerments, Siddhas, Vidyadharas, and Dakinis, residing in pure lands, and in parts of Jambudvipa, such as Simhala and the western country of Oddiyana (Orgyen, Ujjain), which were taken and translated through miraculous displays by great teachers such as Padmasambhava and Vimalamitra. Therefore, many teachings unknown to all the Pandits and Siddhas in India became the fortune of Tibet. In terms of translation, the previous translators were emanations, so they accurately determined the meaning, making it easy to understand and greatly helpful in grasping the overall meaning. Later translators, unable to convey the meaning, merely transliterated according to the order of the Sanskrit original, resulting in stiff and difficult-to-understand sentences, seemingly less helpful in grasping the overall meaning. This is the difference. As it is said. In Tibet, during the period of the Later Propagation, it became a trend for intelligent people with some wealth to go to India and Nepal. If it was entirely for the sake of the Dharma and sentient beings, then it was rejoiced. However, most people with jealousy as their motivation wanted to be scholars, were attached to others' wealth and respect, sought fame, and, due to competition and jealousy towards their own gurus and Dharma friends of equal standing, turned the wheel of the feet (i.e., slandered), which was common. This can be understood from the biography of Marpa's texts being thrown into the water by a friend. Therefore, Omniscient Rongpa said that when the Buddha's teachings had not yet declined, the emanation translators established the scriptures without alteration, determined the way things exist, and the Dharma adorned with various methods to perfect it. But the false translators of today make various alterations to the previous translations, saying, "My translation is good, my source is pure," cutting off the Buddha's teachings and the guru's instructions, each person altering a part of the Dharma, blaming one person's faults on another, saying, "The father's Dharma cannot be compared to the son's." This is very concise. Orgyenpa Rinchen Pel, who attained Siddhi, said that some Tibetan translators in India are Nyingmapas.

They say it cannot be translated. Regarding this, although Chag Lotsawa is the lama from whom I myself received empowerment, he says that there are no Nyingma tantras to be translated in India. Such words are from his own narrow mind. The translator has not even been to the east of India once, so how would he know what is in India? He doesn't even know what is in Tibet. In general, although India is an important source, most of the Indian scriptures are rotten. The Buddha's teachings are immeasurable, how can the Tibetan translators know the source? I went to the land of Oddiyana (Orgyen) in the west, but I couldn't find the boundary. Moreover, the original Indian scriptures were later more numerous in Nepal. Therefore, in one monastery in Bihar, Nepal, the list of Nyingma tantras is unimaginably large. I will invite the old Indian scriptures and panditas of the Nyingma school of Tibet. You all go to Kyirong (now Kyirong County, Tibet) in Mangyul. I acted as a translator but failed. There is still translation to be done for the Nyingma school, but some who want to understand Tibetan knowledge say that the Nyingma's secret meaning has been tampered with by the old mantra practitioners of Tibet and is not correct. Such words are also unreasonable. If we understand, we ourselves will also tamper with such Dharma, and there is nothing better than that even in the Buddha's teachings. Thus it is said. Similarly, in the biography of Jowo (Atisha), it is also said: Jowo's thought was that among the secret mantra practitioners living in the human world, he thought that there was no one more proficient than him, and he had an arrogant heart. Later, when he came to Tibet, he opened a treasury on the island of Bihar and saw Indian scriptures. Jowo saw many scriptures that he had never heard or seen before, and he thought: I know everything about the Great Vehicle Secret Mantra. The Dakinis also manifested countless palaces from the sky and manifested many tantras, and he thought: I don't have these. Is the Great Vehicle Secret Mantra finite or infinite? His arrogant heart disappeared. He offered many rejoicings to the Tibetan king, and said that the propagation of Buddhism in Tibet seemed to have never happened in India. Thus it is said. Due to the kindness of the second master Padmavajra (Padmasambhava), many secret treasures of the Dakinis that were not at all known in India were translated and stored in the treasury of Samye Bihar. Thus it is said.
